From Fashion to the Frontline- Franco Pagetti

Italian photographer Franco Pagetti began his career in photography as a fashion photographer with Vogue and other influential magazines. It was later that he found his calling in humanitarian causes and began to document conflict and violence. Since then, Franco has travelled across three continents trying to document conflict and tell the stories he believes need to be told. Emaho spoke with VII Photo Agency Photographer Franco Pagetti:
What made you choose photography for a career after a PhD in chemistry?
It happened out of curiosity and a sense of duty. I think I’m lucky to have the life I have and I feel I have to give back something to the world.
You’ve worked as a fashion photographer with Italian Vogue. What made you step out into the field to document conflict?
I loved to take pictures for fashion magazines; everything was beautiful but one day I realised it was not enough for me. Nothing against fashion, it was just me; I felt a different desire and became a photojournalist.
