Listen. What’s going to happen - assuming they don’t just ignore it and can’t argue it’s fake - is his fans are going to argue that it’s not as bad as Hudson wearing a swastika, and they will make the very same “people deserve to grow and change” and “he was young with edgelord humor” arguments people used to defend Hudson only they’ll say it’s different with Connor because he “wasn’t as bad,” and this will not only allow them to remain his fan while continuing to criticize Hudson for being a Nazi, but also allow them to say that since Connor isn’t as bad, Hudson fans are the real hypocrites for excusing Hudson but not Connor, and then it will once again be Hudson and Hudson fans who are the real racists. This rhetoric will appeal to the people who made that same rhetoric about Hudson, and they will declare they have the same stance with Connor, all the while they’ll ignore that Hudson’s situation wasn’t remotely comparable. Anyone who tries to point that out will be accused of not being able to cope with their fave being imperfect, and they’ll be reminded that Connor is Hudson’s friend. Very suddenly, Hudson will be Asian again and they’ll point out Connor can’t be racist if his best friend is Asian or they’ll say that Hudson wouldn’t be friends with him if he was racist (unless he’s racist too: gotcha!), and if we really care about Hudson, we’ll respect his friendship with Connor and stop criticizing him. In the end, both of them will be viewed more or less the same way by the greater fandom, as flawed people who are better now, even though one was hate-crimed and the other was not, to say the least. Watch.
