Sketchbook Work!
Here are some sketches I did during the week of my primary sources!
The first page includes drawings and observations of different parts of a conch shell, and also an explanation of how they form (source: Britannica.com) . Basically, conch snails have a special tissue called a mantle that produces calcium carbonate (often found in organic rocks like limestone). Layers of calcium carbonate build up over time to form the conch shell, which protects the snail! The shell takes between 3-5 years to form! This connects very well with my theme, because it shows the movement of time and shows how intricate and delicate the movement in the patterns on the shell is.
The second page briefly goes over the formation of organic sedimentary rocks like limestone, and I did various explorations, sketches and zoom ins of the rock in its patterns, to show the movement of particles, time and patterns!
I'm really enjoying learning about how these different objects form!
