Task One: FAMILY
Write about a family ritual, something your family members do only with each other. How did it start? Why has it continued?
Remy doesn’t really have any rituals, unless you count him trying to get alone time with his wife at every turn, and seeking her out for comfort any time something happens. I guess that kinda counts as a family ritual, since he could easily be putting her in a family way? (wink wink, nudge nudge)
He didn’t really have what he considers to be a real family growing up, so he doesn’t continue any of those rituals, but they were usually things relating to thieving and getting into other kinds of trouble like that.
Does your family have nicknames for each other? Write about them. How did they start? Why did they stick? What do nicknames suggest about the roles people play in your family?
Remy calls his wife Mississippi river rat, and she calls him Louisiana swamp boy. That state part’s easy enough to decipher, it’s where they’re from, but the rest came from when they first met, and getting a rise out of each other was the ultimate goal. Now of course they still have that goal in mind, but to different ends. (more of that wink wink, nudge nudge action)
Write about a family secret. If your family has no shared secrets, write about a family shame, something that simply isn’t discussed.
Remy knows all of his wife’s secrets, and she knows all of his, but he’d never share any of hers, so one of his secrets would be
