fly circles around me, oh, baby (a collage + poem)
Game four of the 2022 NLDS. Bryce Harper watched as J.T. Realmuto hit a in-the-park home run with awe.
[Image Description: most of the paper collage is taken up by three images: J.T. Realmuto celebrating an in-the-park homerun on the top and bottom, and a picture of him and Bryce Harper hugging in the middle. The first image on top has a yellow outline, the middle has an orange outline, and the bottom has a red outline. The top of the collage has a background of various purple scraps with blue-and-green alternating text that reads: "Give it to me, I said oh/baby, give me your glory so I can keep it safe for you." The "oh" is handwritten in black ink with a white background. The rest of the text is chopped up in blocks with black backgrounds. End of description.]

prequel
[Image Description: a paper collage with a pink, teal, black, and light blue mixed background from various scrap paper. In the foreground we have a sticker of Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals after hitting a homerun with Miami Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto squatting behind him. The image has a pink outline. Text from an article above it reads: “‘We faced the [Washington Nationals] so many times over the years and I liked to get in his ear a little bit when he came up to the plate,’ Realmuto said, a mischievous smile creeping across his face. ‘I’d mess with him sometimes. We had some fun with that.’ Fun? What kind of fun? ‘Can’t tell you that,’ Realmuto said. ‘Can’t give my secrets away.’” End of Description.]

2. corners
[Image Description: A paper collage with a background of oranges and blues. In the middle is a mashup of three images: Bryce Harper patting J.T. Realmuto’s head at the bottom, Bryce Harper playfully smacking J.T. Realmuto’s chest in the middle, and J.T. Realmuto and Bryce Harper highfiving at the top. Each image is outlined in red, and the entire thing is surrounded by a flowery blue background. On the left of the collage reads: “No longer a catcher, Harper began to admire the players who played his favorite position in the major leagues. He knew what it took to catch, and the ones who did it right caught his eye. It did not take long for Harper to notice Realmuto.” On the right, it reads: “Bryce Harper has two photos of J.T. Realmuto tacked onto the side of his locker inside the Phillies clubhouse. He has a souvenir soda cup at home plastered with Realmuto’s face. Harper, just like any Phillies fan, has a favorite player. And Realmuto, he says, is his.” End of description.]

3. unseemingly
Note: had to handwrite the “he” because I lost the sticker.
[Image Description: a paper collage with a background of pinks and yellows. On the middle right is a sticker with a red outline with two images put together. On the bottom is Bryce Harper thumping J.T. Realmuto’s chest with his fist. On the top is J.T. Realmuto putting a hand on Bryce Harper’s back. At the top and left of the sticker, text reads: “‘I feel like Harper’s one of the most misunderstood people in baseball,’ Realmuto said. 'Coming in, I wasn’t sure what kind of teammate he’d be just because of some of the things I’d heard. But the guy’s an awesome teammate, he goes out and plays the game hard as he can every single night. That’s the kind of leader you want on your team.’" On the bottom right, the text reads: "‘I’m not sure why he’s the villain in baseball because really, his personality doesn’t portray that in the clubhouse,’ Realmuto said. ‘Harper gets a little bit of a bad rap.”’ End of description.]

4. all star
Note: this is the smallest one, on a 3 by 5 inch flashcard.
[Image description: a small, simple collage with a green and orange background. In the middle is a sticker of Bryce Harper pointing down at J.T. Realmuto with a grin on his face after he set his Washington Nationals hat on him at the 2018 MLB All Star game, and Realmuto is adjusting the hat. Text below them reads: “Harper picked Realmuto’s brain about catching when they were opponents and seemed to plead last season for the Nationals to trade for his favorite player in July. But he would have to wait a little bit longer to call him his teammate. Realmuto landed with the Phillies in early February.” End of description.]

5. meet me
Note: this one is my favorite
[Image Description: A paper collage with a purple and yellow background. Then, in the middle, is the Phillies screen from Citizens Bay Park with a rainbow background for the screen, and in the foreground is a mashup of three images of J.T. Realmuto and Bryce Harper celebrating a grand slam against the Cubs on August 15th, 2019. On the left, Realmuto holds Harper. In the middle, Realmuto is bending down to lift Harper up. On the right, Harper meets Realmuto’s eyes and they yell at each other. The screen and the images all have a light green outline. On the top left corner of the scoreboard, text reads: “Harper barreled into the scrum of teammates that waited for him at home plate. He removed his helmet. He appeared to clock J.T. Realmuto with it.” On the bottom right, text reads: ‘“He said he didn’t feel anything, so I guess I didn’t hit him,’ Harper said. ‘I went to throw my helmet on the plate. I don’t know. It was awesome.”’ End of description].

6. advocacy
Note: it is unclear whether the "grand slam" mentioned here was really a grand slam or if it was a two-run home run. Every source I found said something different. All I know for sure is that Harper was on first base for the home run and scored off of the home run Realmuto hit, whether it was a grand slam or not.
[Image Description: A collage with a background of reds and greens. In the top left, a huge baseball takes up the space with a sticker of Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto high-fiving on it, outlined in blue. Beneath the sticker, text reads: “‘Sign him,’ Harper yelled after Realmuto hit a grand slam in an empty Citizens Bank Park during an intrasquad game.” Then, further below, it reads: “Harper circled the bases after Realmuto’s home run, touched home plate, and pointed his head to the sky as he yelled his wishes into the air.” End of description.]

7. dedication
[Image description: a collage with a background of swirling reds, blues, yellows, and greens. On the left is a squiggly shaped sticker outlined in purple with Bryce Harper boarding a plane in a J.T. Realmuto shirsey. In the bottom right of the sticker, text reads: "3.10 (Bryce’s and J.T.’s jersey numbers) to Vegas." In the bottom left, there is a cutout of Bryce Harper wearing Jackie Robinson’s jersey with the Realmuto shirsey underneath. In the top right, there is a cutout of Bryce Harper wearing the Realmuto shirsey during batting practice during the 2020 summer camp training. All the cutouts are outlined in purple. At the top right, text reads: "The six time All-Star outfielder posted an Instagram photo Monday of himself boarding a plane to his Las Vegas hometown wearing a Phillies No. 10 Realmuto Shirsey." Below that, the text reads: "'I wore it pretty much the whole second half of the season,' Harper said. 'It was T-shirt day at the ballpark and I wanted one. I stole one for this year as well because it was very comfortable underneath my jersey, and I think it gave me a little bit of good luck.'" End of description.]
