"Common era" is WORSE than "anno domini" because at least AD acknowledges why it is counting this way, while CE still counts from the nativity of Jesus but it pretends to be neutral. It even pretends to be common, but Japan & the Jews & the Maya have different calendars so "common" might be true but "universal" is not.
(COVID was global. The year rolled over to 2020. That should be year 0 anno corona imo.)
"Common era" is worse than "anno domini" & here's why:
Common Era is anglocentric, while anno domini is Latin & more common across romance languages.
Common Era is not universal. In Japan, the Reiwa Era began in May 2019ad or may -1ce or may 1bce or may 1 reiwa or 9374/september/1993.
Common Era is hiding the fact that it is still dominucentric & I think it is WORSE to hide that fact & sneakily make everyone use christian years as opposed to openly acknowledging the dominucentrism.
My solution:
COVID was MUCH more universal.
The common era should start with 2020 as year 0, so right now as of writing this post it is year 6 CE.
It is ACTUALLY common.
We can either call it CE for common era, CE COVID era, or AC for anno corona.
