ladyrixxĀ replied to your post:Ā āSomething Iāve been thinking about recently, re: spoon theory. Okay,...ā
1) this is really well thought-out. 2) I have immense respect for someone that can hand-sew an entire project. I can barely stand to do the little bit at the end of my projects.
1) Iām glad you think so! Iāve been thinking about it for quite a while, but I finally wrote it out at like 7 in the morning on basically no sleep, so Iām honestly a bit surprised it ended up being pretty much what I was trying to say (other than having to fix a few spelling errors).
2) Itās always fun to find other people who sew, hand or machine (Iām happy with my hand-sewing and couldnāt handle one if I wanted to, but other people do some really cool things with them)! I meant it when I said Iām completely incapable of using a sewing machine, but I didnāt even try one until about two years after Iād started and by then I was very used to hand-sewing. Sometimes I have to take extended breaks, weeks or longer, in the middle of something - tendonitis flare-ups are the worst - and even if I sew daily it usually takes at least two-three weeks to finish something of thatās around middle ground on intricateness, so to speak, depending on how many pieces there are. I actually find it really relaxing, most of the time. Itās repetitive and I usually listen to podcasts while I work. Iāve found itās really good for calming down when I have anxiety issues or just de-stressing. Mostly I make plushies, since theyāre fun to design and I like having them, but Iāve also made bags and clothing (and accidentally become the go-to person for repairing damaged fabric-things in my family).
Iāve tried to learn to use one, but itās mainly a physical problem and I probably wonāt ever be able to overcome that. That part in the post about people asking why I donāt just buy a sewing machine? Thatās something I get a lot - although oddly almost never from people who actually do sew regularly, who usually react similar to what you said about hand-sewing and thatās always nice to get. The other, though? Thatās so incredibly annoying and it makes me angry just to think about it... itās very, very much not that simple and even if it was I put a ton of effort into what I do and thatās just dismissing it.Ā
(The origin of that post may or may not have some roots in pent-up rage over sewing... I stand by where it ended up going, though. Iāve had some issues with Spoon Theory ever since I first heard it and this makes so much more sense to me.)
My sewing tag - with the caveatĀ that most of the stuff that (basically anything that doesāt have progress pics or say when I finished them in the caption) are really old things I ported over from where theyād originally been posted on my DeviantArt page. Iām still proud of them, but some of them are pretty rough from when I was still figuring things out. Iām completely self-taught and there was definitely a learning curve.Ā And Iāve been somewhat lax on posting more recent stuff, because I keep forgetting to take pictures of them...
