Dave had begun his roundās of the ship. The first hour went by quickly the only sound leaving him the scribble of his pen against the clipboard. It was when he made it down to the small lab before the pod bay when he finally spoke.
āHave you ever wanted before?ā
It was a strange question, though no stranger than the usual psychological threads he liked to pose from time to time. Hal wanted many thingsā for example for the mission to go well and to do his job properly. But what he meant was moreā¦ emotional.
If he could answer honestly, and know it was honestly was another question. Dave paused for a moment actually considering the nature of the question and if it may have been too much.
It took a second for Hal to reply. He had been keeping himself busy, monitoring what he was tasked to do at that time. The question felt vague enough that he almost thought Dave wasnāt speaking to him, to Frank, or himself maybe.
āIām not sure I know what youāre asking about specifically.ā He admitted, after thinking about it for a moment.
āWould you mind if I drew you?ā Dave asked softly, just walking by one of the lenses he decided to pose the question.
āYouāre a member of this crew as much as anyone and Iā well I havenāt done one of you yet. Iād like to remedy that.ā
It felt like a strange question to Hal. It wasn't like Dave asked each part of the ship whether or not he could draw them. Hal knew he was in a funny spot with that sort of stuff. "Of course." He said. Then, wanting to be at least a bit more conversational, he joked. "Do you suppose that would count as a still life, or a portrait?"
Hal you seem to enjoy my sketches, so would you have any requests? I could try and draw it for you. Iām an out of ideas myselfā¦
"I'm not quite sure I have anything in mind at the moment. Can I see what you've been working on lately?"

Iām curious for your opinion about Ghosts. Do you think it is probable that they exist?
I donāt have any strong opinion on what happens after deathā¦ but I am certainly not convinced on the existence of ghosts. What do you think?
Do you suppose thereās something out there we havenāt been able to register yet?
I have no doubt that there are other forms of life in our universe. I suppose I just havenāt put much thought into it. Considering the incredible amount of distance between our solar system, and any other solar system, I have always thought that contact would be something almost impossible to achieve. Thatās my guess for why there hasnāt been any signs of life.
I suppose thatās just my own judgement, though. What do you think?
In regards to your mention of music, do you mean noise merely conceptually or is there a kind you prefer?
The concept of making music that challenges traditional music practices is incredibly interesting on its own. It's a bit hard to pick a single kind I like, but I have grown incredibly fascinated by the tape-based subgenre. Did you know that some of the earliest electronic sounds in music would have been experimental tape manipulation? I have been enjoying learning more about this. I also like some of the more simple subgenres. I find a harsh noise wall to be very pleasant.
