I used to play a lot of Gambit Prime because I liked the idea of filling interesting roles that most similar games don't represent. Even when you got mowed down, it felt good knowing you did the best you could for your role.
New Gambit is honestly not good.
I love Gambit, it's my favourite game mode, I did Reckoner and I'm gilding Dredgen each season, so I have played a lot and they genuinely didn't do Gambit any favours when they changed it.
Removing Prime was awful in of itself because it was such a unique experience, but they could've at least kept the original Gambit with rounds. They didn't though. They basically stripped Gambit off its best parts (rounds in regular and Prime in general) and left us with this husk of a game mode that is honestly probably extremely bad to people who disliked Gambit in the first place.
Main problem is the lack of any sort of potential to bring a losing game back and the spam of invasions. No rounds and no damage phases basically means that whoever gets Primeval first is going to win in 90% of the cases by nuking it in less than a minute. Nothing is was done to remedy Primeval health or behaviour to keep it in line with damage potential that exists in the game right now.
Invasions are also very imbalanced and need a fix. Since it works by motes banked, it means that the faster team will get more and more portals and the losing team won't have a chance to catch up. It contributes to the steamrolling that games turn into.
I know they specifically wanted to speed Gambit up, but I personally think that's a bad idea. It makes the game boring and frustrating for those who love the mode and for those that don't it just turns into "load in-cheese the boss" glorified bounty simulator.
The whole identity and fun was completely removed from the mode. I feel like the changes were specifically for people who dislike Gambit and just want to get it over with which is a shame because it was such a unique game mode in general. The combination of pvp and pve and cool rewards and unique strategies was really special.
They did say they're gathering feedback about it but as of now we have no idea when it'll be Gambit's turn. It's not a popular mode, tho it will become even less so the longer it stays like this.
I do still enjoy playing it and it can still be fun, especially if you have a group to play with, but it's really not because of how the mode currently handles.
