Comics Workbook reviews the “intense” Anti-Gone by Connor Willumsen. “With this book Connor has really made the reader—with the dialogue, with the cartooning, with the sequencing—free to explore this space, and it’s just amazing to read.” — Sam Ombiri, Comics Workbook Check out the whole review here!
Fun Dead
Simon Hanselmann doesn’t post much on Tumblr anymore, claiming it is “dead”, preferring instagram instead. When he does post a cartoon, it’s usually because it’s too risque for instagram, meaning there’s probably a penis in the cartoon somewhere, either real or strap-on.
So, a couple of days ago, a new comic, “Funded“, shows up in the feed, and of course the first thought is “this will have a penis or two in it” and sure enough, it does.
“Two Girls and a Caricature” by Ari Mulch
I finished up my entry for the @comicsworkbook Composition Competition for the year! I experimented with a different technique, and it was a blast. It was a great way to wrap up the summer.
The story is inspired by my experience working as a caricature artist this summer. Any resemblance to persons living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental
I’ll be selling this as a mini soon, I’ll post about it once they’re for sale! In the meantime I have a patreon you can check out to see more extra stuff!
OPEN COMICS (dynamic (plural (contradictory vs. CLOSURE (Or what Charles Olson called “The NON-Projective,” those comics which print bred and which is pretty much what we have had, in English & American, and have still got, despite the work of Frankie: it led “the alt”, over a half-century ago now, to see it (DC’s, Marvel’s) in the light of “the Egotistical Sublime”; and it persists, at this latter day, as what you might call the private-soul-at-any-public-wall)
Hey creepazoids! I wrote a piece for @comicsworkbook on open form in comics, talking about Lyn Hejinian's "open text;" Wolfgang Iser's phenomenological approach to reading; and comics by Lynda Barry, Ikeda Riyoko, @alyssa-berg, Michael Deforge, & Andy Burkholder! Check it out if you want to get #educated on the future of comics.
