What does #ComeUptown mean to me and @core5creative? I was born and raised in the South Bronx. All my life, it seemed that being from the Bronx was a disadvantage. No one from other boroughs ever wanted to come here due to their own preconceived notions on what The Bronx is all about — “It’s so far!” “It’s dirty.” “Isn’t it dangerous?” I’d tell new people where I was from and they already had assumptions about what kind of guy they were dealing with. But to me, the Bronx has always been a beautiful place where anything is possible. This is a place where, though life can be a little rough, hard work and hustle can make dreams come true. I’m living proof: the first person in my family to graduate from college, and the first to own my own brick and mortar business in the US. Since childhood, I’ve jumped through almost every hoop imaginable to get here, and it’s all been worth it. Now, with with the help of my family, my friends, my supporters, and my studio, I’m actively rewriting the narrative on the Bronx and inviting everyone to join me. These pins are are a representation of the endless possibilities that live Uptown, not just the Bronx but Washington heights and Harlem too. They’re priced at $13.73 because that was my address on Washington Ave. when I pressed a shutter release for the first time and made my first photograph, leading to the vision that I’m making reality right now. I opened @core5creative in February of this year, just 3.5 months after leaving my comfort zone and quitting my full time job. My goals for Core 5 Creative were to build a brand that represented the interests of creatives; for the studio to be a space where creatives of all races, colors and creeds could come to learn, share and grow comfortably.
