glitch city reminds me of the backrooms movie or rather the other way around since i had been thinking of it that way for years before the concept came into existence. do u have any similar thoughts. its a really nice trope for a setting
I haven't seen the Backrooms movie yet, unfortunately! I want to, though.
That being said - Glitch City kind of is like the backrooms before the backrooms. You literally do "no-clip out of reality in the wrong areas" to reach it. And even though it's completely scrambled, it's composed of so many familiar-looking tiles, so it gives that same uncanny feeling that liminal spaces do today.
And there's something incredible about it too - those scrambled tiles aren't just random nonsense, it is the game's code in tangible, visual form. You can alter RAM just by cutting the trees there. There is something so surreal and incredible about wandering around the internals of the game itself.
But much like the backrooms, Glitch City's not without its dangers too. Stray too far out of bounds with walk through walls cheats and you can potentially cause a RST 38 crash that obliterates your save file completely. It doesn't even give you the typical "The file data is destroyed!" error message. Your save file is just gone. Which is a little freaky!
As long as you don't wander too deep in, you should be fine...
