1. COMBINE OFFICIALLY INSTALL ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM

Following negative reactions to the operation of the Universal Union according to recent polls, our benefactors have taken measures to gain favor. Among the top complaints were, “Maltreatment of individuals”, “lack of entertainment”, and “general human disorientation”. To counteract some of these complaints, the Universal Union has decided to officially implement an entertainment show, to be streamed globally on television.

“I personally believe that this will bring great fulfillment and satisfaction to the people of Earth,” stated Consul Piccirilli. The Consuls of Cities 9, 15, 24, 31, 42, and 50 also put out a similar statement suggesting that such a show would provide a morale boost to humanity as a whole. Dr. Breen himself has given his full endorsement for the show.

The program will feature several different ‘games’ for three days of the week. Monday will feature a show similar to the old Jeopardy!. Wednesday will be a show reminiscent of Wheel of Fortune. Lastly, Friday features a survival-type show which will feature contestants from across the Universal Union. Tuesday and Thursday will feature a history show of the Universal Union. These shows will begin airing the week of November 3rd, at the beginning of curfew in each City and Precinct.

2. UNIVERSAL RATION INCREASE

Beginning on October 7th, the rations of every citizen of the Empire will have it increased by 1. Military citizens will have an increase of 2.

This ration increase was proposed by the Group of Human-Combine Affairs of City 1 after reporting mass starvation in multiple Cities. The GHCA control human and transhuman affairs on Earth and negotiate with the Combine for human rights. This move has been regarded as essentially entirely positive. Consul Donohue made the following comment on the act, “Feed the hungry, feed the workers even more. There is nothing wrong with that. A logical and humane way to provide for everyone.”

The act is estimated to nearly cut in half number of starvation deaths, and reduce malnourished citizens by a third. It is also expected to increase the workforce a quarter, bringing the total workforce to approximately 40% of humanity. Administrator Breen stated, “Our Benefactors choose to support us with their various gifts and acts of kindness. We should not squander these deeds of kindness - I encourage everyone to go out and apply for any sort of job at your local recruitment station. Assist the Universal Union in assisting humanity as a whole. They do not have to give these to us for free, they could easily force us to pay for them just as our barbaric ancestors did.”

3. THE UNIVERSAL UNION SUCCESSFULLY LIBERATE THE XENEXIAN CIVILIZATION

The Universal Union has added yet another civilization to its ever growing liberation. The Universal Union has successfully freed more than 100 civilizations from barbaric regimes. Their Administrator, Gr’zy, said on the matter, “The Universal Union’s presence has been an event of great luck and fortune. They freed us from our Danteri oppressors and the Combine promise us a future of joy and prosperity.”

1. THE HISTORY OF CINCO DE MAYO

Cinco de Mayo honors a day in which the strength of unity proved through. The French attacked the Mexicans, in hope of breaking up the American Union, who were at their weakest state. They were nearly divided, and France seeked finalizing that division. And with an army twice Mexico's, who was to stop them?

Unity. Mexico, with an army of only 4000 to France's 8000, were able to defeat the French. They protected themselves, and the union of the Americas. Unity proved through, and after this show of it, no European military force ever sought to invade any country within the Americas. Unity had won.

Our Benefactors came and strengthened this union, beyond our ancestors' wildest dreams. The union is now global, and even unified beyond our solitary planet. Yet, as with France, people seek to break the Combine. The Resistance tries to break apart this union, to return to quarrel and false democracies. But as with Mexico, the Combine will not forfeit to anarchic attacks. Feliz Cinco de Mayo.

2. MAY DAY CELEBRATION

May Day, or International Worker's Day, celebrates the unity of the working class. Where would we be without these workers, this unity? They are the very foundation of humanity. They did the hard work while the wealthy class sat upon the workers and feasted on their work. But even so they worked on, for these workers are the base of society, and without them, society topples over, and revolutions occur.

Today, the Combine support the working class and promote their role in society. Becoming a Worker or Civil Protection is one of the most esteemed decisions in this society. With it, you become part of the foundation, part of the support for millennia of civilization.

Resistance seek to take this holiday and twist it into a reason to revolution. A revolution would only return society to its old form, where workers were abused and their productions reaped. But the May Day celebrations proved that the working class will not let their old fate return. They will stand strong, and be abused by no one.

3. THE NEW CHILDREN'S DAY

One of the largest complaints with the Universal Union is that they have suppressed the human breeding ability. They often find it oppressive and take as if it were a personal attack. In particular, Japan has often taken this to a violent extent on Children's Day.

I pose the question; is a child's personality and happiness really something to celebrate? Surely, this innocence is found nowhere else in human lifespan, but is it really that important? The innocence is naïve. To celebrate naïveté is to celebrate ignorance, to highlight the darkness in the history of our species. What should be celebrated is the personality of the adult, inquisitive and informed. While they may have lost the naïveté of the child, they have gained something even more important: knowledge and learning. A child is empty, gullible, and hungry for more. An adult is filled, careful, yet still hungry for more.
