Or perhaps simply the perception of the world, as a figure descended. Evening shifted to night, crawling flames leaving little meaning to the things they scorched.
The star of Fomalhaut glittered- no, burned in the distance. Its light scorched the night sky, painting it a deadly azure, the warmth edging its way into one's mind, improbable things manifesting and descending upon this new perception of the planet.
A new world order, as a voice rang out--
"Edict. Wage war. For the Shangdi, the eternal heavenly firelight."
She did not introduce herself. That was for later.
Combat, that was the decree of the foreign entity, her form draping the heavens and wreathed in fire. The consort of the ever-burning.

Cipher Holy Grail War - Wave 3, Day 2 (Mass Combat)
The Saber had reached her destination a while ago. Running through the brush, stopping by a lake, and seeing the woman standing at the edge. The knight had frozen still, her eyes wide and her grip on her sword loosening slightly.
The witch sighed.
MORGAN: "…So, this is the hand that fate as dealt us. Don't waste your breath- we're enemies, so hold your sword as such."
GARETH: "…Mother…"
A gunshot rang through the air, as the Caster and the Saber looked skyward, seeing the incoming Archer. The Archer grinned, as more shots rained down, the witch setting up a shield of magic while the knight ducked for cover. Both of them returned to focus as the Archer landed, matchlocks spinning around her with theatrical malice.
NOBUNAGA: "Sorry, was I interrupting something? I was looking for-- well, that doesn't matter. You two are Servants, right?"
The Archer reloaded her shot, preparing to attack again.
MORGAN: "And so more and more flies buzz in. First 'Saber', then a gunman. Archer, if I had to guess. Do all of you insects with to die?"
At that-- the ground rumbled. You watched an incoming army moving closer and closer, trampling through the brush.
Marching. Incessant marching. Vengeful marching.
They were approaching.
The warlord cackled, her guns focusing in more on the encroaching Berserker army.
NOBUNAGA: "Uwahahahaha! Party crashers all around, huh?!"
"▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅▃▃▄▄▅▃▃▄▄▅---!!!!"
GARETH: "So many enemies, and she's one of them-- my heads spinning! But I can handle this!"
MORGAN: "Hm… let's see just how far that confidence will take you, 'Saber'. All of you-- prepare to face the consequences of facing me."
Mass combat ensues! Archer, Saber, Caster, and Berserker! Masters-- support your Servants!

In a 'Mass Combat' scenario, the rules of and skills relating to a "Free-for-All" apply-- excepting that the bottom 2 Servants take damage, and the 2nd place Servant takes the demerit!
The skill boosts this round are...
Oda Nobunaga: +5%
Sir Gareth: +2%
Morgan le Fay: +0%
The Unknown Soldier: +0%
SKILLS:
ODA NOBUNAGA
TRAIT: When engaged in a Free-for-All (while not Playing Defensively), all other participants are given a -3% demerit. If attacked while 'Playing Defensively'', they do not take the ambush demerit.
Unifying the Nation by Force (A Rank) - Nobunaga's power increases when fighting against an enemy possessing a higher rank of Mystery.
Tier 1 (Against Caster, ???, ???): +5% boost.
Tier 2 (Against Lancer, Saber): +3% boost.
Tier 3 (Against Berserker): +1% boost.
The 'tier' a Servant falls into is revealed upon engaging with them the first time. In a Free-for-All, this does not stack- only the highest boost is applied.
The Saber seems to rely more on martial skill than Mystery but has an element of magic to her weapons and techniques, while the Caster seems to rely heavily on Mystery.
Strategy (B Rank) - When fighting in a Free-for-All, she gains a +2% boost. No matter the battle type, if Nobunaga is encountering a Servant that she hasn't met before, she gains a +2% bonus to her poll results.
Nobunaga gets a +1% boost due to Defensive Play last round!
SIR GARETH
TRAIT: When engaging another Servant 1-on-1, they get +3% to their combat poll results. When engaged in a Free-for-All, they gain a +2% boost.
Gareth Beaumains (B Rank) - Her Saber-Class trait for 1-on-1 battles increases from 3% to 5%, and from 2% to 3% for Free-for-All's. When she takes damage, she gains a +2% offensive boost the following round that is not impacted by demerits.
Gareth's skills trigger! This round she has a +2% combat boost that cannot be reduced by demerits or ambushes! That will last until the round ends! When this skill triggers, it also means that her minimum cannot go below that granted boost of 2%.
Battle Continuation (C Rank) - When taking a mortal blow, Gareth can survive with one wound remaining, and she gains a +8% boost for the following round. This can only be activated once.
MORGAN LE FAY
TRAIT: If the Caster decides to play defensively, and are attacked by another Servant, they get +4% to their combat poll results and do not suffer the ambush demerit.
Witch of the Lake (A Rank) - When 'Playing Defensively', the Caster-trait score boost is increased +5%, and you cannot be caught off guard. Demerits (including those from Noble Phantasms) against Morgan are reduced in effectiveness by 3%, and she gains a +3% boost in one-on-one battles.
Reciprocated Slaughter (Scheming) (EX Rank) - When involved in a Free-for-All, gain an immunity to non-Noble Phantasm demerits, and inflict a -5% demerit on opposing Servants.
If Morgan gains 1st place in the Free-for-All by a margin of 10% or more, inflict a -3% demerit to your foes for their next round and gain a +3% boost for your next combat round.
THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER
TRAIT: If engaged in a 1-on-1 fight with another Servant, they get +5% to their final combat poll results, and when engaged in a Free-for-All, they inflict a -2% demerit on their enemies as well.
True Name Discernment (Warlord) (D) - An aggression and awareness targeted towards those who commanded others to their deaths. When fighting against specific enemies, their boost changes.
The 'tier' a Servant falls into is revealed upon engaging with them the first time. In a Free-for-All, this does not stack- only the highest boost is applied.
The Berserkers seem to show aggravation towards both Caster and Archer, though Saber is not safe from their ire either...
Madness Enhancement (Distributed) (A) - Each time a body is lost (as in, when damage is taken), they gain a +3% boost to their damage. They also get 1 more 'health' than other Servants... however, they cannot use Command Spells to restore health. (Current Boost: 0%)
Oblivion Correction (False) (B) - War never ends. When directed to 'Play Defensively', they will instead refuse, and attack a random opponent. However, their constant battle-vigilance means that they are completely immune to the 'Ambush' demerit. There is also a chance that they can 'surge'- their four bodies splitting to attack four enemies at once, though this also means four chances of taking damage. This 'incessant assault' can even disrupt the natural order of things- even invading full Free-for-All battles!
Tumblr Holy Grail War, Another Start: Wave 1 - Day 1 (Team Avenger, Team Foreigner, and Team Archer)
Heed my words…
My ████ creates your body, And your sword creates my ███████…
If you heed the Grail's call, and ████ my ████ and ██████, then answer my summoning…
"…Ehehe…ehehehehe…!"
A Servant was summoned. Beautiful and ephemeral, like a sunflower. Vines gripping and corroding the wood of the church, and the data compiling the Holy Grail War.
The purpose of the Foreigner Servant was clear. Annihilate the other Servants. Claim the Grail. Annihilate the other Servants. Annihilate the other Servants. Annihilate the other Servants. Annihilate. Annihilate. Annihilate. Annihilate. Annihilate!
'FOREIGNER': "Masters... Masters... are you all my Masters...? I'm Van Gogh... let's repaint this world... together... ehehe... ehehehehe!"
Angra Mainyu: "...Well, I tried. Your Servant is here. Congratulations. I sealed some of her skills, so this won't be awful, I don't think. And I'm not dead thanks to you, which is also neat. That being said, going from 'outside threat' to 'internal competitor' is a fine change, but still makes her dangerous. Guess this'll be my first real fight as a Servant!"
As he readied himself to fight, another Servant burst in through the doors of the Church, readying his bow for battle.
Angra Mainyu: "Finally, the cavalry is here! Okay, let me catch you up to speed. That's Foreigner. Bad news, honestly. So… let's work together on this one, Archer."
Arjuna: "…I'll agree to that, simply because the other Servant seems more dangerous. Though… I can't say that 'teaming up' with a Servant like you is an idea I'm fond of. Just looking your direction is giving me the impulse to rend you asunder."
Angra Mainyu: "Yeah, yeah. Believe me, I don't like you very much either, but I'd prefer NOT dying. Anyways, since we're in a new phase-- ahem, some 'things have changed' in the Grail War, I guess we're dealing with new mechanics! Uh, 'new' mechanics? Overseer?"
[ Avenger has forged a temporary 'alliance' with Archer!
If an allied Servant wins first place during a Free-for-All, then their partner won't sustain a wound! When fighting alongside an allied Servant, they both gain a +5% boost! Additionally, they're immune to ally debuffs!
Due to the nature of this alliance, it will fade once the battle ends if not renewed by the Masters of Archer and Avenger! ]
Angra Mainyu: "Look at that, making old mechanics make sense. Better late than never, so... go us! Here's the thing though… I'm basically a lost cause, so as much as some of you will probably hate this, you'll need to dump as much mana as possible into Archer or things will get ba--"
The connection crackled and shorted out, before a voice came out from the other side.
'FOREIGNER': "Masters... Masters... It's me, Van Gogh... I've answered your call... I came here as fast as I could..."
VAN GOGH: "Can you lend me some of your mana...? I can work on commission... ehehe... just a Gogh Joke...!"

As Masters who summoned the Foreigner-class Servant, Van Gogh, it seems as if you can command her! Which means... you CAN win the Grail War with her if you band together to support her, just like any other Servant! Maybe her winning the Grail will unlock a 'special ending'? While the other Servants may stand against her, that doesn't make her any different than the others. Though... it doesn't seem like she has proper Command Spells?
Well, that's a topic for later. For now... fight on, Masters of Foreigner!

There was a flare of magical energy, as a burning figure shot in through the shattered window of the industrial building.
With one smooth slash, the Avenger sent the Gunner careening out the window, the samurai spinning in the air before crashing on a rooftop. The Gunner stumbled up to his feet, before pulling out his shamisen.
"Avenger, huh? No reason to be stingy with ammo, then! Proto-Arahabaki, go!"
A barrage of gunshots erupted from the head of the instrument, the Avenger having to dodge and weave through them. A final beam, from a cannon manifesting next to the Gunner erupted in a violent blast, before the Gunner reached into his robes, pulling out a small bottle and lobbing it towards the Avenger, watching as it made contact.
Ice- a freezing agent sprayed out from it. Intense cold washed over the Count, as he waved his flaming sword, the frost instantly evaporating. He pointed the flame blade at the samurai, sneering.
"Gunner! We meet again! And this time, you have neither the cover of the forest, nor your mechanical army to assist you! Today, you face the might of the Avenger by yourself! As one man! I wish to see your resolve, gunman!"
"A lot of talk... 'one man'… don't you know who I am? Forget True Names, I'm a revolutionary! A nobleman like you stuck in the past, that thinks the whole world is his to command-- get with the times! The future is now! And the future will send you to Hell, Avenger!"
"Hahaha… Hahahaha-- KUHAHAHAHAHA!!"

Round 7, Day 2 - Pretender versus Gunner versus Avenger
A lone figure walked through the forest, idly looking around before his eyes fell on a figure-- the de-facto ruler of this part of the map. The Gunner smirked, hand resting on a hidden pocket, ready to draw weapons.
"And there he is, the Servant of the hour. How about we put on a show? You seem like the type that'll like that."
"Maybe-- but we're not alone."
A moment passed, as the Pretender jumped out of the way, narrowly dodging a flaming sword that ripped through one of the trees.
"Wow. would you look at that? Avenger finally shuffled out of his dusty little hole. Did you finally remember there was a Grail War going on?"
"Joke all you like, you cannot stall me. Now, behold the all-consuming flames of an Avenger!"
The Avenger swung his dark blade, black flames striking at the dense woods around them. Of course, when flame hits kindling, the sparks quickly lead to calamity. The quiet forest erupted into flames, the sparks backlighting the ghastly grin of the Avenger, and the amused smirk of the Gunner.
The Pretender frowned.
"Oho? Am I seeing a spark in your eyes, Pretender? We haven't spoken much, but you seemed rather unflappable before. And you, Gunner... let this serve as my formal introduction! Hahahaha!"
"Look at that! Ladies and gentlemen, keep your eyes peeled! It seems like this fight is going to be pretty interesting!"

The Berserkers approached the base, stopping as a figure clad in black armor stepped out into the open.
BERSERKER: "You are not the witch… but I can sense it. Blood on your hands. Cruelty. You thrive on the suffering of others."
AGRAVAIN: "…Is that so? Is that your impression of me?"

Cipher Holy Grail War - Wave 2, Day 2 - (Saber, Assassin, Berserker)
There were intruders in the castle. The Assassin sighed, putting down her tablet pen and kicking away an empty cardboard box.
OSAKABEHIME: "Ugh. Won't even let me finish the screentones. Guess I'll have to get to work… whatever gets them out of here the fastest."
The young knight bravely marched through the, frankly, incredibly intimidating palace grounds. It seemed like there were eyes watching her from every inch of the building.
GARETH: "Brr. Spooky… and the air in this place is stifling, it's like I'm being weighed down… but there are enemies ahead, so I'll have to push through!"
She stopped, as phantasmal soldiers began to approach her.
Her name was a blank to the phantasmal soldiers- but her essence was clear enough to invoke their ire. A knight that was no stranger to battles- that had marched in the glorious name of a king, and had killed for said king as well. A warrior had added members to their bloody ranks, as the knights began to close in with an enraged rumble.
BERSERKER SOLDIERS: "▂▂▃▃▄▄▅▅▂▃..."
However, the bright Saber was unaware of the internal logistics of the warriors approaching her, and only responded in the face of hostiles.
The air shifted, as a massive, ghostly form manifested.
OSAKABEHIME: "Humans, you dare to step within the domain of the Assassin? This is a sin you shall pay gravely for, as I rend you--"
OSAKABEHIME: "(Oh, chotto a minute, pause the monologue-- where's my phone? I should take some pics of the blondie before she gets cursed to death… 'cute lady knights' never go out of style~~ snap-snap! Okay, so where was I…)"
OSAKABEHIME: "--rend you into pieces, cursing you for a thousand, thousand years. Your souls shall never know rest, I declare it so!"
The young knight readied her sword, preparing herself for battle.
GARETH: "So, that's Assassin! Use all the magic you want, summon all the familiars you need- I'll definitely prevail! I won't let my Masters down!"
…Familiars.
There was an entire ghostly army marching about the entirety of the palace grounds that the Assassin had nothing to do with- because it was the works of a whole other Servant.
OSAKABEHIME: "…Familiars? I mean, yes, my familiars. OBVIOUSLY. These wild spirits roaming the halls belong to me, and should also strike fear within your heart! Only by striking at them, may you even earn the right to truly harm me! Ohohohoho~!"
OSAKABEHIME: "(…Who the heck are these guys and why are they trying to haunt my haunted house?!)"

Despite the clear malice of the Assassin, they have a lower sense of aggression towards her as compared to the knightly Saber. Saber falls within 'Tier 2', while Assassin falls within 'Tier 3'.
Madness Enhancement (Distributed) (A) - Each time a body is lost (as in, when damage is taken), they gain a +3% boost to their damage. They also get 1 more 'health' than other Servants... however, they cannot use Command Spells to restore health. (Current Boost: 0%)
The tension in the air was palpable. The next few motions were unspoken, but inevitable with a clear impasse. The Gunner gripped his shamisen, grinning. The Ruler's grip on her banner tightened. The Avenger summoned his burning blade. The MoonCancer readied her great axe. The Alter-Ego raised one of her bladed legs.
An agreement wouldn't be reached.
So, they were going to settle things the old fashioned way.
"Wait--"
With a stretch, the Alter-Ego smirked, eyeing the other Servants.
"Oh, whatever. We can sit here and talk about logistics for hours, I know two Servants who aren't gonna budge. So... You know, let's get rid of those two, and then we can work out where to go next, okay?"
"Then we're fighting to kill. It was nice chatting with you all, but I think we're beyond friendly conversation. The Master's want to make things work, you don't. You're outnumbered, so either fall in line, or face the consequences."
The Gunner reached into his pockets, grasping a few colored vials within his fingertips, each one trembling with suppressed power.
"The Age of Gods is over, and that includes the reign of monsters. As Heroic Spirits, our job is to push humanity forward, not drag it back into darkness. If you can't accept that much, then I have nothing more to say to you. May God have mercy on your souls."
The Ruler said, slowly spinning her banner as she began to pace, preparing herself for whatever was to come next.
With a laugh, the Avenger stared down the Ruler, keeping his movements counter to hers.
"This is how we push humanity forward, Ruler. Your flaw is that you're too stuck in your ways. This is the purpose of our summoning! If you wish to go against it, then you'd best stay on guard!"
"Good grief, you're all nuts. Ruler's the only one talking sense! This is more than just taking a risk, this is trying to drop a nuke on society! I hate to pull divine rank here, but as an avatar of Namasthetu, I can't just let this slide. C'mon, Mushika!"
' … '
"Let them fight, Echidna. This is the nature of Servants. Regardless of the specifics, the instinct is the same-- they're still battling over the right for the Grail."
And with that, five forms surged forward--
And a grand battle began.
A true battle of life or death! The loser perishes, and the winners forge onward! Masters-- support your Servants!
