This is what leadership looks like I am concerned that tribalism, without providing helpful advice, is having the opposite effect of what we need; in other words, the helpful advice you might want to convey gets diluted or even ignored when you add your political colour to it. I am witnessing people criticising their own leaders’ decisions in both of my countries and even praising the other to add criticism to their own. Today, the Spanish and British governments have opposite approaches to life and how society must be run, one on the left, and the other one on the right. And this has become clear when we see how they have armed themselves against the pandemic. On one hand, the Spanish government detractors criticise that the strong measures being imposed now mean the government haven’t prepared in time; or that it had been hiding information based on some sort of conspiracy agenda. In the UK, the approach seems to be diametrically different: While many companies are stepping up preparations for the virus, the executive powers seem to be accepting its inability to contain the disease and thus asking us to stay at home for just 7 days, and only if we develop a new continuous cough or a fever. The conspiracy theory here is that the government is hoping for some of the elderly to die, which in turn would improve the economy.
