we don't think of the white horse as conquest anymore because culturally in white-dominated, us-centric society we are no longer inculcated to fear conquest. instead we fear disease, because disease is synonymous with that which is other

so instead of the horses representing conquest, which we don't understand the danger of anymore because we have acted as empire and conqueror for so long, war, famine, and death/plague, the way the ancients/medieval people did, we have them representing disease, war, famine, and death in our pop-culture depictions of the horsemen.
