Colin Bailey was born on July 9, 1934, in Swindon, England. His passion for music started to manifest early in his life. By the age of four, he was already playing drums, and he has never stopped ever since. He joined a music school early in his life too, where he studied piano and theory. From age 18, Colin Bailey was already working with English name bands.

Cast Your Fate to the Wind – Vince Guaraldi Trio

This delightfully light and carefree song Cast Your Fate to the Wind became the standout of Vince Guaraldi’s third and breakthrough album from 1962, Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus. The song won a Grammy Award for Best Original Jazz Composition in 1963. It was the song that  Peanuts producer Lee Mendelson heard on the radio that prompted him to commission Guaraldi to compose for a proposed Charlie Brown documentary.

As is often the case, the record label (Fantasy) didn’t pick this song as the one that would stand out and they released it as the B side to Samba de Orpheus; but radio DJs preferred the more accessible, catchy "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" over the clearly jazz samba. The song became so popular that later pressings of the album have the song name so prominently that the album is often mistakenly referred to as Cast Your Fate to the Wind. For later releases they simply gave in and abandoned the original title.
