Both of them were born with very dangerous powers.
Julien was born with the power of Plasma. He is like a living star able to produce and control beams of super hot ionized matter that burns like the Sun. If he were to use this on another pokemon he could kill them by mistake, so he has trained intensively with the support and help of his parents to be able to use his powers carefully as not to hurt anyone and mostly uses his powers to create shields and for mobility, never for attacking.
Jet was born with the power of Endothermic Fire. Fire is typically an Exothermic chemical reaction, it releases heat outwards; An Endothermic Fire would draw heat from the surrounding area inwards and make the area around it colder despite the flame actually being very hot. Due to her abnormality she was not able to exist around other charmanders as a child as pokemon were afraid that her flame would consume the heat from other Charmander's flames and make them very weak or kill them. She was seen as a danger and unwanted by everyone except one...Instead of support she was manipulated by someone who saw her only as a weapon they could use, and she had no options but to be completely loyal or completely alone. She was used like an attack dog and grew exceptionally fast, becoming a Charizard relatively young.
Thanks to Julien's power of Plasma, he does not get cold from Jet's Flames. Thanks to Jet's ability to absorb heat she does not get burned by Julien's Plasma beams. Julien can teach her to control her powers and gives her a friend that actually cares about her well being so she doesn't need to be alone, Jet can teach Julien not to be afraid of his power or hesitate to make a decision to attack when it's for a good reason like to protect those he cares about.

okay so iāve been thinking about this idea a lot lately and maybe after the modern!AU Iāll actually sit down and write it proper but I got some more ideas (mostly regarding the bending bros)

mako and bolin are non-benders.Ā theyāre still orphans, and I was wondering how they might have survived on the street with no bending to work with. they still have pabu (and pabu is still the inspiration behind the name āfire ferretsā). they also both love pro-bending even tho theyāre non-benders, and they got a job being custodians at the stadium and in exchange they live there.
bolin is the ācool brotherā and mako is constantly living in his shadow. heās also more introverted but still moody. heād prefer to read a book instead of fighting, but he also knows how to defend himself. bolin always got into fightsĀ
bolin has the scarf.
makoās not a jerk in this AU heās a precious cinnamon roll. bolin loves the spotlight. bolin still becomes a famous actor in this AU, and mako still becomes a police officer but he has a different path of getting there.
at first, mako just offered to drive the cars for money to pay the bills, then he fell in love with police work and decides to go to republic city university to get a proper education and a police foundations degree
he meets wu in university.Ā wu is Bi as Fuckā¢ and head over heels for mako. mako isnāt reciprocating but because heās not a jerk in this AU he lets wu down easy and they actually end up being Best Bros.ā¢
masami happens after korvira happens in book 1. everyone is fucking mature about it.Ā mako and asami eventually break up because mako knows asami is in love with korra and doesnāt want to interfere with that.Ā
the following are spoilers for ideas in the laterĀ ābooksā in the rewrite. they are under the cut.
bolin gets airbending in book 3. this causes a rift between the brothers because once again, bolin got to be theĀ ācoolā one and get all the cool things. however, they settle their differences after they remember and realize theyāre all they have left of each other. bolin promises to let mako ride his sky bison to schoolĀ āto impress the ladiesā
bopal happens a lot on the mutual ground of both of them being airbenders, and theyāre both learning how to adapt in a huge change of lifestyle. for bolin, itās no more partying and girls and shit like that and he falls in love with opalās continuing willingness to improve herself and learn the ways of the air nomads. he really admires her strength
korrasami happens in the middle of book 4.Ā as in, they admit to each other they love each other and kiss and shit like that. the whole point of the rewrite is that thereās a shitton of build up.
asami still stays behind between b3 and b4.Ā its very similar, except its more of asami can never find time to get to the SWT to visit korra because sheās too damn busy running future industries. this is also because in b3, kuvira discovered she was from zaofu and decided she wanted to stay there for a bit (su took her in)
kuvira is the sorta not kinda but sorta kinda big bad in book 4 (still).Ā its actually baatar jr whoās theĀ ābig badā but heās manipulating her. emotionally andĀ physically because...
suyin is toph and sokkaās daughter, and thus baatar jr is a waterbender, and a bloodbender.Ā heās actually controlling mega maid through kuvira. the plot of b4 is the krew figuring this out (before the last stand, they thought it was kuvira the whole time not knowing she was the prisoner)
mako and bolinĀ fulfilĀ the roles of asami and hiroshi in the last stand, with bolin dying.Ā mako is fully prepared to sacrifice himself to finish the hole for them to hop through. however, mega maid knocks back the hummingbird and mako and bolin escape it. korra is managing to hold up mega maidās arm with earth or icebending. there was a moment before where bolin boasted that he could hold a plasma saw with one hand, so he says heāll go and finish the hole himself since he can fly there. thisĀ is where they have theĀ āyou donāt have to prove to me that youāre awesome. youāre awesome!ā convo, mako says the line bc bolin is theĀ ācool brotherā. he had taken back the scarf from grandma and he gives it to mako. he also talks to opal one last time and she whispers somethingĀ in his ear before he goes. he flies up with the saw, korra can barely hold on, and bolin swears heāll fly out of there before it crashes but he canāt finish the hole before korra can give up. so, he chooses to stay behind, finish the hole, and get crushed.Ā
mako is incredibly distraught by this. like, bloodrage distraught. wu and opal have to hold him back from hurting somebody
opal told bolin she was pregnant before he left.Ā iām actually still debating this trope because itās very typical tbh but at the same time I love this trope
the people who hop into mega maid are korra, asami, lin, su, and jinora.Ā lin and su do the same as they did before, but asami and jinora are the ones in charge of taking down mega maid. asami does the lightningbending thing but she knows when to stop and get out of there. however, her and jinora kinda get caught in the blast and take cover. everyone wakes up near each other, asami andĀ korra follow baatar jr to the forest (idk if he brings kuvira with him or not)
asami does not go to the spirit world with korra when she creates a new portal.Ā as such, sheās terrified that korraās dead.
korra talks not only to baatar jr in the spirit world, but also bolin.Ā at first she wonders how spiritual he was during his life, but at the same time is grateful she can still talk to her friend one last time (or is it one last time)
the series ends with everyoneĀ going on the spirit world vacation.Ā I mean, korra and asami are already together, so thereās no reason for them to do a vacation just the two of them (esp since they grew up together). the finalĀ āshotā is korra, asami, mako, opal and kuvira going to the spirit world and seeing bolin, and its likeĀ āone big happy familyā shot.
mako and kuvira plant the seeds of hooking up at varrick and zhu liās wedding.Ā because pair the spares (also it was a cute idea that came to mind that I want to tease throughout the later books)
