Thatās right, itās the start of a new chapter of European escapadesāItalian flavor. After about four hours of sleep last night, I woke up at the crack of 8am to board a train to PARIS. However, I will not easily forget Lyon, especially the last few days. I would say each of the past four days can easily be summed up in one emotionā¦
EXASPERATED. Oh Tuesday-- the day before final examinations, sweltering hot, and generally miserable. Suffice it to say I spent the majority/whole of the day working on projects, which normally wouldnāt take much time. But mix horrendously slow internet access with a final project that includes creating a webpage⦠ouch. The claustrophobia of working for so long in my room drove me to do crazy things: at one point I actually got dressed and committed one of the great cardinal European sins: I went into a Starbucks⦠and I bought something. I am so ashamed.
INCREDULOUS Wednesday. Why? What is āusuallyā a day of 5 hours of class turned into 8. I am not kidding. I sat in a classroom and listened to/gave presentations, for 8 straight hours. Straight. Hours. Also, Iām now on the run from the law. Explanation: one studentās project involved traveling to a specific part of Lyon, so we took the Metro. By the time we were heading back to the classroom (for the next 6 hours) our tickets had expired. Professorās solution? Obviously, hold open the gates while the whole class runs through, and hope there are no ticket checks on the train. Later that night I hid out at the movie theater and watched Harry Potter 7.5. Favorite part: in French wand = baguette.
RESTORED- Thursday. Happy Bastille Day!!! Or if youāre French, just act indifferent until the fireworks show. Whatever floats your boat.
FRAZZLED Friday: ok, I partly just wanted to use the word frazzled. However, as noted by the hour I went to bed, packing and getting my room and affairs in order was slightly chaotic. The (early) night was very nicely wrapped up at a final UVA in Lyon group dinner, at which I ate the best dessert plate OF MY LIFE. I literally didnāt want to eat it because the thought of it ending made me so sad. I got over that though. Besides the food though, it was a great time sharing a final meal with new friends in a great city. To Lyon:
Vraiment, tu me manqueras.
Although Iām sad to leave Lyon and my friends, my excitement to arrive in Paris for a day, then Italy, mounts with each rolling hill that scrolls by my train window. I know the blog has been kind of lame lately, so I feel slightly guilty that I wonāt be able to update for a while after this. Iāll be in Italy for the next week and wifi may be scarce. Worry not, Iāll prepare a witty yet insightful overview when I return. Ć bientĆ“t!Ā
