“Just sit still. Stay calm.” Funny advice for him to be giving when his heart beats like a hummingbird’s wings, humming with anxiety in his chest. Pulling his gloves on and pushing up his sleeves, he pulls up the hem of her shirt ever-so-slightly to see the wound at her waist. Hakuba winces– that bullet hardly left her unscathed. Blood seeps through her clothes and onto his gloves, though he’s so tunnel-visioned that he can’t even think about it.
He never carried full medical supplies around with him, but he could at least do something. Hakuba whips a tube of disinfectant out of the pocket of his suit, uncapping it. “This might hurt. Take deep breaths, please.” Even as he applies the product in all of his anxiety, his face is calm and solid, hands stilled. Trained in the art of working through stress.
Quickly, Hakuba removes his handkerchief from his pocket and presses it over the wound. “I’m so sorry.”
