Last week we took Friday off work to check out the Heath factory tour. We had some time to kill before it so we checked out Cibo of Sausalito for a quick cup of coffee.

We got simple, straight forward pour overs - one of the house blend, the other of the Nicaragua - and Joe got an orange juice. We watched the locals as we waited for our coffee. Joe says the orange juice was really sweet and not really what he was expecting. 

The coffee was good. Typical thirdwave light roasts, but still very tasty. The house blend was a bit more citrusy and acidic than the Nicaragua, but we enjoyed them both. Even with the amount of time it takes to take the pictures, the coffee didn’t seem that hot, but it was perfectly drinkable. I would totally go back next time I go to the Heath factory. 

Here's another DC review. Because I was there for a conference I was short on time and my range was limited. I had one afternoon to cram in a cup of coffee and a record shop so I went to The Wydown because it was a few blocks from Joint Custody. 

The Wydown is part of the new wave of development near U street. It's a perfect pastiche of what a third wave coffee shop should be. Cool coffee art? Check. Group of moms having a baby play date in the front? Check. Communal tables that some people don't want to share? Check. Decor a mix of woods, concrete, exposed steel, brick, etc? Check. Which isn't to say it's bad. It was pretty good. It was just eerie how much it embodied everything trendy coffee shops should have.  

I opted for a pour over of the Ethiopia Kurimi. Solid cup. Very citrusy and nice to drink. I really enjoyed the cup. I stood at a tall table while I drank it and read about English football and people watched. The guy next to me seemed overwhelmed by the activity of the place. The vibe was busy, but it was pretty good. The space was pretty cramped though. It's not a show I would feel comfortable camping out for hours in, so I enjoyed my cup and then walked over to go record shopping. 

If I am in DC again, I would totally go back. Not only because it's close to one of the best record shops I've been to in the district, but also because, the coffee was solid. I don't think it's ever not busy.
