How much human media has survived since the invasion?
âAh, lemme answer this one,â Mordenna said. âTruth be told, not much. Turns out having memories of your former culture might make you want to go back to it! So the Elders have been doing their best to eliminate everything of the âOld Worldâ regardless of how âoffensiveâ to their current âideologiesâ it might be.â Each quote punctuated with air quotes. âFinding anything, especially twenty years down the line as we are, is a hell of a crapshoot. I actually had quite the stockpile in my Hunterâs Lodge just because, yâknow, the Elders didnât like it but it was too beneath them to do anything about it.â
From relatively nowhere, Wiki popped out her head. âIâve been making it my mission to aggregate everything pre-invasion because I will not stand for this erasure of knowledge.â
Mordenna waved her off. âIf you donât have The Room then thereâs no point.â
âBold of you to assume I wouldnât have The Room.â
Mordenna looked at her for a long while. Then;Â âIâll give you twenty bucks for a copy.â
Question for Wiki and vix: can codices change their form any way they like?
"Demonstrably so!" Wiki gestured to Vix. "I mean, just look at her! You saw all that happen in the narrative." Wiki is cosmically reminded to remain within her narrative confines. "Fine. We absolutely can, and it doesn't even need to be humanoid. This form's just the best for traversal, space, and holding guns and interacting with stuff. If I so wished I could change my form to anybody's on this ship."
Vix fiddled with her thumbs. "I do not know about changing myself too much. I like this body, and..." She was still unused to it all being 100% her choice to mess with. Maybe later on when she was more comfortable with it. "Besides! Dad said he liked it."
Huh, thought it would be a bit more simple than that (plug into socket and keep only necessary run times active). may I ask what your beef is with specters? Schro feels a might bit of a dick but surely they cant be all that bad
âUnless that socket has the power draw to keep a quarter of the Avenger running, no dice. Though...â Wiki taps her chin. âPerhaps, if I worked with Lily, and at agreed times, I could draw some power from one of the power coils. Probably late at night so Iâm not interfering at any peak times.â
Shaking the train of thought off, Wiki gives a digitized sigh. âIâll be truthful with you here--and itâs not like I can lie otherwise--Specters were brought in to contest us, the Codices, and most of the ones Iâve interacted with have lived up to that goal! Schro has all the usual trappings; kind and polite on the surface, maybe even a little well-spoken, but bring up any of the projects youâre working on and suddenly itâs âoh, is that how youâre going about that? I almost forgot that Codices were designed by the machinations of a single Ethereal, though you managing what you have is impressive, at least.â Ugh.â
Her eye-lights narrow as Wiki squints at nothing in particular. â--I know I should probably give them a chance. Itâs what Eliza would say, it seems, given Iâm only here because she gave me a chance. Any enemy of the Elders is a friend of mine, too. They just... better be on their best behavior!â
Wiki, where and how do you "sleep"? It doesn't feel like elder Odin is so unpragmatic to not put in some form of low power mode for all of his creations, even if only to provide longevity.
ââWhereâ is simple. The--â Wikiâs audio seems to glitch out, â--th dimension. Itâs pretty much the most accessible of them all and non-hostile for anyone whoâs even remotely built for dimension hopping. Practically layered over your clunky default dimension.â
âAnd just to be clear, while you may be right...â Wiki crossed her arms. âI still want praise of Odin to be kept to a minimum in my vicinity. Yes, the world has him to thank for me and my Codex kin, but heâs still so... stupid. Not to mention heâs also the very reason Specters exist...â
Wiki grumbles a little before moving on. âAs for âhow,â you basically pinned it. I revert to a simple form--I prefer something cuboid so I donât roll every which way--and I suspend all non-mandatory processes. Thanks to my brand-new power source here in the Avenger and all the Elerium Cores I could reasonably ask for, Iâll basically live forever, so long as my âbrainâ doesnât take too many hits.â

Wiki, have you had any trouble with integration on board the Avenger? I can't imagine having glowing eyes or a body that only partially extists in this dimension wouldn't freak out humans who evolved a innate caution for anything brightly colored or glowing
ââTroubleâ is one way of putting it,â Wiki conceded, sounding off a digitized sigh. âNevermind the fact that I didnât realize XCOM was barbaric enough to be stuffing and mounting aliens to a wall! I know OâLeary said it was âgood for morale at firstâ but...â Wiki shuddered, the action causing her to wink out of sight for a split second. âAt least she said sheâd be taking it down. Still, the sight of another Codex cortex just mounted there... wasnât exactly the best welcome mat.â
She crossed her arms. âPlus, the soldiers are... rightfully twitchy. Iâve tried doing some âgroundwork,â as it were.â That was Wikiâs way of saying âsocializing.â âBut not many people around here can get around the fact that my kind has been a brightly-colored nightmare for them out in their field operations. Especially that one Reaper... regardless. I was looking into color-shifting myself. Bright orange is a danger color to humans normally, and much neednât be said about what XCOM considers it as. Maybe if I shifted over to light blue... I had thoughts about doing it before, but I figured that doing it before I officially joined with XCOM would be somewhat presumptuous. Otherwise? Itâs more comfy around here than I was expecting.â
