The Veils family were the picture perfect family. Loving wife and husband with a bouncing baby girl on the way. Everything was perfect. Ciela was an obedient child, did well with her schooling, her family life was perfect, until she started to show signs. It was small things, being able to do things that other kids couldn’t do. Early signs of magic.
Having a witch in the family? It was unacceptable. An abomination in the Veil family. An outsider. But instead of abandoning the child or giving it to someone else, her parents had a different idea. They could fix this child, turn her into a proper “normal” person. Every time Ciela would explore her newfound abilities, it was met with the cruelest of punishments. Suddenly, this bright, outgoing child became more withdrawn. What once brought her joy had been twisted into something she resented. Magic is what made her parents look at her with such disdain, why did she have to have it? So, she fought it. Kept it something hidden and locked away.
Time passed and things seemed to settle into a sense of normalcy, except for Ciela. The damage had been done and it seemed like no matter how hard she tried, her parents would never look at her the same way. Her desire to please was slowly replaced with a growing rage and resentment, towards herself, towards her parents. And the more she felt her anger grow, the more she felt something twist inside her, something she couldn’t control. It lashed out, hurt people–in a particular case of rage, it torn their family home apart.
Unable to live with what she had done, she fled, unsure if her parents were unharmed in the destruction she wrought. No longer sure of who she was, she turned to the magical world that she had longed to be apart of, but she found she was a stranger there as well. Caught up in some sort of war. She doesn’t want to take sides, she doesn’t even fully know what each side is fighting for. All Ciela wants to do is learn control. But it might only be a matter of time before she’s forced to make a choice.
