March Release: Real-Time Collaboration, Editor Themes, and Code Folding
Our March release is out and it's a big one! This month we are adding real-time collaboration, chat, auto-save, a new editor theme and code-folding!
Group Productivity: Real-Time Collaboration & Chat
First, we are proud to unveil real-time collaboration! Codenvy users can now invite collaborators and work simultaneously with multi-cursor edition.
The collaboration panel will show you who is working on your project, who is editing the same file as you are, which files are others users working on, and best of all, a real-time chat! Check out the video here: http://vimeo.com/62853761.
We have already been enjoying pair-programming sessions internally and are looking forward to hearing your use-cases. Code reviews? Interviews? Training?
Reduce Risk and Effort: Auto-Save
The latest version of the file you are editing is now continuously saved to the server, reducing the risk of losing your work and sparing you the task of manually saving.
Choose Your Style: New Editor Theme
Our users had been asking us for a new editor theme to customize the editor. While a full editor redesign is still in the pipeline, we've made sure those of you preferring to code on a dark background can do so. Check out the Window > Preferences menu to try out the new theme.
Better Readibility: Code-Folding
Cold-Folding had been a recurring feature request over the last few months and we took the feedback seriously. You can now fold and expand classes, methods, comments and imports when writing Java.
Last but not least is a little experiment we have been working on recently. We wanted to answer the question “How long does it take to do Hello World in Codenvy vs. the desktop?”. We've tested side by side and posted the video on our blog. Judge for yourself with this video comparison.
We love to talk to our users and hear their feedback. Post your features requests here or send us an email at [email protected].
