Yesterday, we were having brunch at the iron whisk,
and as always when we come here, alex and i, between moans of satisfaction, said to each other, "this is the best brunch restaurant I've ever been to."
this particular day, though, i followed up this exchange with the question, 'do you think that if we lived in a society..." [we chuckle]... "do you think that if we lived in a society not driven by money that we would have dishes as good as this?"
alex said: well the capitalist would say, "if we don't have friendly competition we would never see anything like this."
and I said: and the socialist would say, "if we didn't have to preoccupy ourselves with surviving then we would have the freedom to be as creative as this."
Jury is still out on that but what did come out of this conversation was a reminder in our calendar to come here once a month for as long as we shall live here.
