Have you ever used or encountered a lich?π β£ Liches may be one of the most iconic baddies in a D&D campaign. The ultimate "big bad"...the pinnacle of evil! These individuals can be incredibly fun to throw into a campaign. If built with consideration, they can add a ton of value to a storyline, rather than just being a power-hungry, death machine that spams Power Word Kill.π§ββοΈ β£ My rule of thumb when creating baddies in general is to start with a backstory. For liches, it's no different! You can also start building a lich beginning with their phylactery. β£ A phylactery is the repository used to store one's life force, which is an integral part of becoming a lich. Unless the phylactery is located and destroyed, the lich reappears 1d10 days after its apparent death. β£ β±οΈA phylactery can be a sealed metal box containing strips of parchment on which magical phrases have been transcribed.
