Juana, Race?
Sealed my first Gold win for the year! It has been a tough but bountiful experience for me so far since I have decided to be a competitive mountain biker. I do not know how long or how far I might go, but there are milestones that are worth a pause to just say, “thank you”. To God, to my family, to my coach, my team, my moral supporters and close friends.
The story...
I didn’t expect to win. I only slept for 4 hours and I didn’t get to read the tracks before I raced. I told myself that I was going to enjoy this no matter what. Refer to the photo above as I looked like an idiot. The only girl smiling on the starting line, not knowing what she’s in for.
My category was the main event. Which was the “Juana” category. We are supposed to do 3 laps. Well, since I didn’t get to survey the race course, Coach told me to use a rider in front of me as a tour guide for the first lap. As I have made the loop, I quickly broke away from the first rider (which was also my teammate by the way... super proud of her for finishing third, because it was her comback race).
Then on the second lap, Coach tells me to go on an easy pace and pedal like hell on the last lap. And so Winky, did.
And here we are.
This day wasn’t perfect, but I really enjoyed the experience. Last week was a huge bummer, but I guess last week’s race wasn’t for me. And right now, God gave me this opportunity.
And plus, I GOT A NEW HELMET. AND IT’S FUCKING PREVAIL! Only costs, 8000 bucks. *smirks*
I wish they got a photo of me, shocked as fuck when the emcee told me that I needed a new crown. And as I looked at my left, the charming ladies of Camp ‘N Nuvali, handed me the helmet.
I didn’t follow up another sentence after, “Awh, mah gawd.” This whole experience has been overwhelming. And I hope and do pray that this will be a start of more wins.
My teammates did GREAT in this race too! Most of us landed on a podium.
I cannot contain my happiness and gratitude to God and everybody that’s behind me in this journey.
