Not all #rareplants are conventionally “pretty”. This is #AdolphiaCalifornica, which is only found in San Diego County & a little bit of Tijuana / Baja California. It’s very spiky. I’ve never seen it in bloom but I’m told that it smells kind of like cat pee! It’s a very cool plant & we got to see a lot of it on the #CNPSSD #PeñasquitosCanyon hike the other day. Growing among it here are the infamous Cylindropuntia prolifera (coastal cholla / jumping cactus) & a lovely (Pseudo)Gnaphalium californicum (CA cudweed, rabbit tobacco, ladies’ tobacco). . #CaliforniaPrickbush #spineshrub #adolphia #buckthorn #criticallyendangered #endangeredplants #LosPeñasquitosCanyon #lospenasquitoscanyon #chaparral #coastalsagescrub #CNPS #CaliforniaNativePlants (at Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve) https://www.instagram.com/p/Byl68YxHfAZ/?igshid=h1rgafq21i3w
