Are you planning to buy a CNG car or get CNG installed in your vehicle? The compressed natural gas (CNG) is getting used instead of petrol and diesel and is increasingly popular due to its low cost. However, most vehicles are designed to run on fossil fuels, and when you run them on CNG, you are subjecting them to high wear and tear. This does not mean that driving the car on CNG is not the right decision. You can benefit and make CNG cars last longer with the below tips.

Start by Driving on Petrol: When you start the car, you should not switch to CNG immediately. Run it on petrol for up to 1 km and then make the switch. Even if the kit allows you to start on CNG, you should avoid doing it. This will lubricate the engine and reduce the wear and tear significantly.

Prepone the Servicing: In your petrol or diesel run cars, you need to adhere to the servicing schedule. However, when it comes to CNG car, you should prepone it. Some of the delicate parts like air filters get impacted when you run the vehicle on CNG. So, getting frequent servicing done is vital. If you have been advised to get the servicing done at 15000 km, after installing CNG, you should get it done at 12000 km. If you follow this as a servicing schedule, you will not have to worry about the lack of engine oil or breakdown of any parts.

Consult CNG Specialist: When you get the CNG tuning done, you should always reach out to a CNG specialist. If the car has company fitted CNG kit, then you must always go to an authorised service centre.

Change the Spark Plugs: In a CNG car, you need to change the spark plugs more frequently as they tend to wear fast. You should preferably get special CNG spark plugs.

Don’t let the Tank run on Empty: Driving a CNG car requires you to monitor the fuel gauge closely, and you should never let it run on empty. The CNG cylinder pressure tends to fall when the tank gets empty, and the valve can explode.
