Take 5 with CM/ATL May 2021 Speaker, Ron Hsu
We're so excited to have Ron Hsu as this month's speaker, and we can't wait to hear him share his personal take on May's theme of RESILIENT.
But we've still got a couple weeks before the big event (don't forget to register here to join us May 28)! So before he takes the virtual CreativeMornings Atlanta stage, we wanted to ask Chef Ron five quick questions to help everybody get to know him better.
1. What does the theme of RESILIENT mean to you?
Resiliency spans a wide range of areas for a business and member of society. Everything fails in life, and resiliency is the one quality that will determine if you prevail or fail.
2. What's your favorite spot in Atlanta and why?
My home. It's my balance in life.
3. What’s one fun fact about you?
My left eyebrow is crooked.
4. What have you really been into lately? It can be a book, film, podcast, etc.
The TV show "Ted Lasso." It's just a feel-good story about persevering and treating people right.
5. What’s something your friends would want other people to know about you?
My friends have called me sneaky nice, meaning I do nice things for people without them knowing.
Ahead of our amazing upcoming FieldTrip on how to support the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community at home, we wanted to call on the creative minds of Atlanta to consider using their unique talents to support an initiative, called 3in5, that helps address #StopAsianHate.
Here's what you need to know:
The Why: Did you know that 3 in 5 Asians say they rarely if ever see themselves represented in ads and marketing media? Together, we can dare to tell Asian stories. We can flip being ignored, invisible and erased into being celebrated, heard and seen.
Where You Come In: Develop and submit completed PSAs to support Asian storytelling by April 23.
Omnicom has collected donated airtime from 35+ media in the U.S., ready to go live on May 1. Eric Toda (Facebook), Musa Tariq (GoFundMe) and Daniel Oh (Marina Maher) will select the winning creative to run throughout Asian American Pacific Heritage Month (AAPHM).
There isn’t a lot of time to act and produce work, but take your passion, take your stories, and take the ways we learned to create in new ways during COVID-19 to act now!
Get started here: http://www.threeinfive.com/
Then, Participate Every Day:
Go beyond creating PSAs to adopt the initiative.
Pledge your organization to “3 in 5.” Identify ways to represent diverse stories and individuals in May for AAPHM.
Take the initiative to your members, partners and clients and ask them to participate in the program and pledge their brand to 3 in 5 in May and beyond!
Meet One of the Forces Behind 3in5
Championing the 3in5 campaign is Soon Mee Kim, Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer at Omnicom Public Relations Group. She'll join CreativeMornings Atlanta on April 21 to share her meaningful work in DEI and share ways we can all take action to support the API community every day.
Before the event, our FieldTrip captain, Julia Levy, talked with Soon Mee about her professional path and the 3in5 initiative. Check out the conversation here.

We love the colorful work of award-winning painter and public artist Alex Brewer (aka HENSE), who took the stage this September at CreativeMornings/Atlanta to speak on the global theme of Color. Watch his talk.
We are sprinkles over frosting for this doughnut vector, designed by Joey Wathen for CreativeMornings/Atlanta. Nom.
The best thing I ever got for free was: "A camera" — @timlampe Icebreaker Tag from CreativeMornings/Atlanta.
