CMAT 2025 exam pattern in simple words
CMAT 2025 is a 3-hour (180 minutes) computer-based exam with 100 questions divided into five sections. Each section has 20 questions, with 4 marks for a correct answer and a penalty of 1 mark for every wrong answer.

Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation – 20 questions, 100 marks
Logical Reasoning – 20 questions, 100 marks
Language Comprehension – 20 questions, 100 marks
General Awareness – 20 questions, 100 marks
Innovation & Entrepreneurship – 20 questions, 100 marks
The total marks for the paper are 400, and there is no negative marking for questions that you do not attempt.
CMAT syllabus overview
Even though the official body does not release a strict chapter-wise syllabus, the important topics are clear from previous years. CMAT mainly checks your basic aptitude, reasoning skills, language skills, awareness of the world and your understanding of business/innovation concepts.
Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation
Arithmetic topics like percentages, profit & loss, ratio & proportion, time, speed, distance, interest, and time & work.
Data Interpretation based on tables, charts, graphs and caselets where you read data and answer questions.
Logical Reasoning
Puzzles, seating arrangements, series, analogies, relationships and other question types to test logical thinking.
Language Comprehension
Reading comprehension passages, vocabulary, grammar, synonyms-antonyms, sentence correction and para-jumbles.
General Awareness
Current affairs, Indian and world economy, business & corporate news, government schemes, sports, awards and static GK.
Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Basics of entrepreneurship, types of businesses, startup ecosystem, innovation concepts and simple business scenarios.
Who should consider CMAT?
CMAT is ideal for students and working professionals who want to join AICTE-approved MBA and PGDM programs without relying only on CAT or a handful of other exams. Many good tier-1.5 and tier-2 B-schools accept CMAT scores, which means you get more college options with a single exam. If you are targeting management careers in marketing, finance, HR, analytics or operations and want a national-level test with a broad college base, CMAT fits perfectly.
Basic preparation strategy for CMAT 2025
You don’t need PhD-level maths or extremely tough reasoning to clear CMAT; what you need is clarity of concepts and regular practice. A structured preparation plan of 3–6 months is usually enough for most candidates if they are consistent and focused.
Step 1: Understand the pattern and syllabus
Start by knowing the five sections and the type of questions that appear in each.
Look at a recent CMAT paper or sample questions to understand difficulty level.
Step 2: Build section-wise basics
Revise school-level arithmetic for Quant and DI and solve concept-based questions daily.
Practice 1–2 reading comprehension passages and some vocabulary questions daily for Language Comprehension.
Step 3: Practice full-length mocks
Take timed mock tests to improve speed, accuracy and question selection skills.
Analyse each mock to find weak areas and update your study plan accordingly.
CMAT score and MBA admissions
After the exam, NTA declares your CMAT score and percentile, which you then use to apply to individual colleges that accept CMAT. Each participating institute releases its own cut-off score and follows its own selection process, which may include Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI) or other evaluation rounds. Your final admission depends on a mix of CMAT score, GD-PI performance and sometimes your academic record.

The Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) 2025 results were announced by The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted on the official website at exams.nta.ac.in/CMAT. Takers can log on to their scorecards by filling in their application number and date of birth. The CMAT 2025 examination was held on January 25 and was conducted in two shifts at 178 exam centers spread across 107 cities. In the computer-based test (CBT) mode, 74,012 candidates registered but only 63,145 attended, thus, an overall attendance of 85.32% was achieved.
Steps to Download CMAT RESULT 2025
The CMAT result cum scorecard 2025 will be available only via login. Check out the following NTA-CMAT 2025 result download process:
Visit the CMAT official website at https://exams.nta.ac.in/CMAT/.
Click on the 'CMAT-2025 Scorecard' tab.
Enter the application number, date of birth, and security pin.
To log in, click the 'Submit' tab.
Download the CMAT 2025 scorecard and print it out.

CMAT result 2025 MARKING SCHEME
The marking scheme for the CMAT result 2025 takes a methodical approach. Candidates receive +4 marks for each right response, with each question worth four marks. But for each wrong answer, one mark is subtracted. Questions that are not attempted are not penalized. Candidates will receive full marks if they choose any of the valid answers when a question has multiple correct answers. Furthermore, all candidates will earn full scores for any questions that are dropped.
CMAT result 2025 TIE- BREAKING CRITERIA
When two or more applicants receive the same score on the CMAT result 2025 tie-breaking criteria, their rankings are determined in increasing order of date of birth. This means that older candidates are given a higher ranking. If numerous candidates have the same score, they are assigned the same merit rank, and the following rank is skipped correspondingly. For example, if two candidates are put at rank two, the following candidate will be allocated rank 4, skipping rank three.
