I feel so different from my family, like the black sheep. They call me whitewashed, suburban, proper. They make fun of my interests. Ironically, when my sister was younger, she made fun of me for watching anime and now she loves it and even has a whole wall dedicated to it.
Sometimes it bothers me, and sometimes it doesn’t. I know I’m different, and while I fantasize about fully embracing that, I also fantasize about showing others there’s more to me than they think.
I can’t wait to get to the point where I don’t care at all, where I’m not bouncing back and forth between caring and not caring. But I will get there eventually, and I can already see little progress. I mean, it’s only human to care.
On a positive note, I am finally getting my things together to study abroad. I do not know exactly where I want to go, but I do know I don't want to go to Europe. Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Jordan, Japan. They are all calling my name. I wanted to do a whole semester but I had to compromise with my parents (they are paying for the whole thing) and do a summer one. That's fine though. As long as I get to stay a few months in another continent I will be happy :)
I'm in my last year of college, and I want to a gap year so badly, but my parents have been financially supporting me through everything and are completely against it. Because I'm dependent on them, I feel like I have to do what they want. I don't think they even realize how hard it is to get into med school, so I'm like, I have to take a gap year anyway. I want to use one for travel and then another to make myself a stronger applicant.
Living here in Africa gave me this huge travel bug, and I just don't want to dedicate the next four years of my life to med school. Not yet. They think I'll lose momentum, but I know I won't because I don't see myself doing ANYTHING other than medicine.
They're also looking at my age, but it's like, who cares if I'm 26, 27, or 34 when I start med school? As long as I start, that's what matters
I think people really overestimate how much money you need to live a good quality life. Like, yeah, location, children, etc. matter, but you really do not need millions of dollars to live a nice, peaceful life. Seeing people talk down on making $200,000–$300,000 a year, or women acting like they need to bag the richest man, is crazy. If you can handle your finances, budget where it matters, and splurge in the areas that matter most to you, you can live pretty well making $100,000 to $300,000 a year. I mean, there are people right now acting as if a man making $500,000 is not a lot of money, while they themselves are not making nearly half as much.

One of my goals this year is to learn how to do all the beauty treatments that I usually go out and get done (hair, nails, eyebrows, etc). I want to start with hair and nails and then go from there.
So far surfing, hiking, jazz lounges, clubbing, begging my parents for more money, volunteering , school work, begging some more, dancing. meeting amazing people, and enjoying life.
I have never been so disconnected from my religion in my entire life. I grew up in the Church, and there was one point where Christianity was such a large part of my identity that it became the backbone of my ALL decisions, but now, not only am I this close to deconversion, I also have this heavy feeling of guilt on my chest from deconstructing my religion the way that I have for the past few months.
