               &  desiré couldn’t help but notice that for the past 12 & a half minutes   (  in which she’d only been  half - counting )   the boy before her , charming as ever , had  not  stopped  talking  .    truthfully ,   the same way she’d only been half - counting ,  she was half - invested in the conversation   ---  if you could even call it a conversation   .   .   .   .     in her seat  ,   she shifts backward , folding her legs beneath her ;  comfort is the target , she’s gonna be here a while .     she   sips   &  sips away at  her  strawberry milkshake , blunt canines biting & biting  on the plastic straw as she just listens . watches & listens .  every now & again  ,    a soft hum emits   ---   just a hum of acknowledgement . she was there , she was in it , albeit   half  in   it  .  oh , dear .

stepping out into the waiting-room, harleen surveys the room for a moment before her gaze falls upon the boy that currently seemed pre-occupied with something. walking over to him, she tilts her head as she looks down at what he’s doing, a small smile forming on her lips.  “ ya ready for another appointment, richie?”  she asks him. their first session had mostly been an informative one, as they usually were. information about the doctor-patient confidentiality and the exceptions to it, how these sessions would go ( that he could talk about whatever he wanted to, and if he didn’t know what to say, she might ask him some questions, but he didn’t have to answer if he didn’t want to,) and so on. with that out of the way, she now hoped that from today forwards, she would learn a little more about her patient and what she could help him with.

                  TRUE   LAUGHTER   falls   like   loose   change  ,   usual   sullen   haze   in   his   eyes   absent   for   the   time   being  .   “   that’s   good   stuff  ,   kid  !   you’re  ,   uh  ,   pretty   talented  .   ”    arthur   LOVED   kids   ---   at   times   envied   their   carefree   little   world   ---   &   richie’s   gained   an   especially   soft   &   fuzzy   spot   as   his   mini   partner   in   comedy  .   “   .  .  .   wish   i   could   do   voices   like   you  .   i   really   think   you   could   make   it   with   the   big   boys   someday  .   ”
