I recently adopted a stray clown that had been wandering around my new neighborhood. For anyone who’s heard my story about Bells the jester, yes this is a habit of mine—my mom thinks I should try working at our town’s clown rescue center over the summer because of it.

So, I can’t entirely tell what breed she is, but when I took her to the vet, they said she looked to be a Birthday Mime mutt. White face paint, black and pink striped dress, cotton candy hair, that sort of pattern. Her name is Bubbles, which I kind of regret honestly since I think I could have come up with something prettier for her.

Anyhow, I’m not just posting to gush about my new clown. Recently, Bubbles has been doing this weird thing that I’ve never heard of Birthday Clowns or Mimes doing. It’s kind of like my sister’s cat, actually. She’ll hop up onto my bed while I’m working and bump her pigtails against my shoulder. To answer any questions ahead of time, I give her plenty of attention, take her on walks twice daily—once in the morning and once in the evening—I have plenty of space on my property for her, a proper ballpit, everything I read that I needed to get her. Whenever she does this, I’ll put what I’m doing on pause to give her attention, but she’ll usually end up just bumping her pigtails against somewhere else, like my knee or shin depending on how I’m sitting.
