February 8, 2018, I revived a call from @unep to be one of the Lead Author for the Global Environment Outlook 6. Immediately I accepted the offer to lead in chapter one (Youth-led Green Solutions). Today, I’m not only happy but also, have the privilege to share that our platform #ClimateWednesday was also showcased as a platform that drives the innovative conversation on climate actions. Also, the #GEOYouthAfrica was also launched today at the side event of AMCEN in Durban South Africa. #Forests & #ClimateChange Climate changes directly and indirectly affect the growth and productivity of forests Forests are important in determining the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere; they absorb 2.6 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, about one-third of the carbon dioxide released from the burning of fossil fuels. However, this great storage system also means that when forests are cut down, the impact is big. Deforestation accounts for nearly 20% of all greenhouse gas emissions — more than the world’s entire transport sector.
