Today I took my plants down from the window shelf they were in to take them to the school that will take them in. I have always liked them, but never thought myself to be very attached to them. I cared for them, and even though I was never too dedicated to their care (I wish I had been) they were so resilient they still managed to survive and look beautiful here. I cared enough about them to talk to them occasionally (something I picked up from growing up with my grandma talking to all her plans and having the most beautiful garden I have ever seen). I was not prepared for the deep sadness I felt when I finished taking them down. I packed them with so much care, much more than I expected. I massaged their leaves gently and told them I had found them a new home because I had to go. I told them I hope they could grow and be happy where they were going. And that people could be happy seeing them, like every time I saw them. They always made me happy.
