Let Go - Frou Frou

Sylphs of Life heal broken Life. They heal Growth and encourage Players to keep going even when they find themselves stuck in a rut, predominantly by going out there themselves and leading by example. They can’t create life - that’s wholly in the Maid’s capabilities - but they can fix what’s already there. Wealth, Prosperity, Development, Selfishness, Motivation - these are they things they seek to revitalise in the people around them. 

Which I think is perfectly described here:

The entire song reads as the singer attempting to get someone to actually Live their Life, to stop holding themself back and to rush in for what they Want - to figure themself out, to keep up with the world and the things happening around them. 

Even at the risk of things going wrong, there’s something to be found, things to learn from - beauty in the breakdown. And, of course, the general chorus of “let go, jump in, what’re you waiting for?” - that’s a Sylph of Life, hands down. Why are you waiting for your Life to come to you? Go out there, grab it yourself!

Also, “such boundless pleasure / We’ve no time for later now”; Life is all about the Luxuries, the Desires, the Pleasures in Life - and a Sylph would be the first to help someone go after these things. 

That said, the song reads more like a plea than a command or an enforced action. Sylphs are still passive Players, so there isn’t going to be the same sense of abrasivity that tends to come from other Life Players. Still Determined, don’t get me wrong - which still shows through it how persuasive the song is - but not as harsh.

Im gonna say Witch of Doom.

This song seems to be about two people taking comfort in each other in spite of the world falling apart around them. There are many Doom-like themes in the tone of the song. While hopeful, the surrounding atmosphere is pessimistic, and all in all futile. 

The singer knows that he is staring down the end of the world. And yet, he has found a way to come to terms with it so long as he can see it through with his love. As we read in the aspect canon, Doom teaches us that “sometimes the only thing you can do for a person is let them know that they are not alone in their suffering.”

I chose to pair the Doom aspect with the Witch class, because the singer is inherently redefining and repurposing the way Doom traditionally works. Witches optimistically rebel against the nature of their aspect. What better way to rebel against Doom than to turn up your nose at the bombs coming down around you, face the death of everything that you have ever known, and reply with ‘the end of the world be damned’?

This isnt a song of hope for a better future, or a song pleading to improve the world around them. Its about knowing that one day, its all going to end - and thats just fine. The chorus literally references the singers own death, in one last final embrace with their partner:

To take this song in parts, because it’s gonna take a bit for me to figure it out:

We have someone who’s incredibly good at lying - like, ridiculously good - to get what they want, with the singer being able to look through their lies and see their deceptive ways. 

We then have the singer telling us that this person is also really good at appealing to crowd mentality; with a single word, he can make an entire crowd jump up to their feet as he so desires, and cause a riot without them even knowing that he’s the one who set them off - leaving him completely inconspicuous. 

Apparently the line “dance fucker dance” is a reference to Lord of the Flies and a scence where people dance around a fire after killing a pig/enemy human - so needless to say we can see how damn destructive and how effective this person is at controlling people. 

We then get the fact, again, that this person is really good at sneaking away without anyone suspecting him. This is someone who is able to cause a lot of damage, play people to his own tune, and get away with it Scott-free.

And then we get just how effective this person is in the chorus. “a thousand lies and a good disguise” implies just how damn deceitful this person is, how clever, and how capable they are - especially since “hit ‘em right between the eyes” means he’s hitting bulls-eye every time. Then we get the guy just walking away, nothing to say for himself or the things that he did, and then people running from him out of abject fear - like, this isn’t someone you mess around with. Nobody tries to stop him or speak against him. They just run. 

Then it seems like in the second part of the song we get the singer actively going against the person he’s singing about, getting in his way to try and stop him, and maybe even succeeding - though to the effect of the person then trying to get rid of him. 

They definitely seem like a Witch of Rage. Someone who owns Rage so wholly that they can Manipulate it, and everyone else, in a flash. Witches completely Control their Aspect, and going against a Witch? Oh, that’s such a bad idea. A Witch could ruin you in seconds - especially a Witch of Rage.

I think, specifically, being able to control a crowd without succumbing to Rage personally is a big Witch trait. If a Witch can control Rage, then they can control their Rage - control their perception of Truth and Reality in order to Obscure it for others; control their Rage and their Anger in order to puppeteer others. 

Yes! It’s absolutely perfect for a Lord of Time, honestly. 

With the first verse we get the idea of all-encompassing time: “In the gallows or the ghetto / In the town or the meadow / In the billows, even over the sun / Every end of the time is another begun” - essentially, no matter where you are, when one thing Ends another begins only to End again. The cyclical nature of Time. 

Then obviously the chorus is pretty much just “Time is the ruler of everything, and I am Time in the End”. While that might make you think of an Heir, it’s important to note that he’s still saying he’s the ruler of everything - and you can’t say that a Lord doesn’t rule over his Aspect, moreso than any other Class in existence. 

And then ironically the “Do you like how I dance?” lines are… actually pretty normal of Time. This is Time’s melody, it’s trance, its music - and “Do you like how my face disintegrates into chalk”, to me, aligns well with how a Lord of Time could just completely fuck with the very concepts of existence. It also gives off the idea of Decay, or Death - two very Time-y concepts.

I really don’t need to comment on how “I have a wonderful wife, I have a powerful job / She criticises me for being egocentric (ha-ha-ha-ha!)” fits a Lord of Time. That, in a sentence, is exactly what a Lord is like - it’s exactly what we see Caliborn be in the comic. 

And, again, “I’ve been you, I know you, your facade is a scam” - that works well for how Lords of Time work power-wise. More than any other Time player, they play with the very foundation of Time itself, becoming and being and having been at such an extreme that it’s mind boggling to understand. 

Then the really juicy bit, the bit that just sells it as a Lord of Time; “Do you hear the clock stop when you reach the end? / No, you know it must be never-ending, comprehend if you can / But when you try to pretend to understand / You resemble a fool although you’re only a man”. The clock doesn’t stop when you reach the End because, for the Lord of Time, it’s not the end; the Lord decides what is and isn’t the End, can jump from one End to the next or start an End from a beginning, turn a middle into an End - it’s all up for grabs for him, and if he’s particularly clever, as we see with Lord English, it really is never-ending. You can’t get rid of Lord English. He’s always there, he always has been, he always will be - to destroy him is to cheat, not to successfully win. 

Then, of course, the commentary on trying to understand but being a fool if you pretend; it’s highly implied that Lords don’t actually understand their Classpects. They get it, to a certain degree, but they never understand it the way a Sylph does. They just do and it happens because that is the nature of their power.

I’m not sure if that was for the general Heart Aspect song, or if there was meant to be another class there, but here are the Heart and Sylph of Heart songs I chose!:

Heart Aspect: Master Plan - Adam Lambert (sung to Mind Aspect)

Sylph of Heart: Without Me - Halsey (Quite literally about trying to build someone back up after a broken relationship, falling for them, and then getting left behind - fits well with the Sylph “do what you preach” thing)

Definitely Sylph of Life for Daisy - Zedd. I thought at first it might work better for a Heart player, but then it hit the second verse - how she’s like a record on repeat - and then I thought back on the first verse - how she’s always going down the wrong paths, how, essentially, she’s stagnating and not going in the direction she needs to grow - and the Life aspect just flourished. The best part is that while, yes, this is a song about the singer trying to make the person she’s singing about love her, that fits incredibly well with Life’s desire and temptation. Daisy is the temptation for the singer - so proven when she says that she’d take the stars from the sky just to guide Daisy to her - and so what we have is a Sylph desperately wanting to act on the very thing she’s trying to teach someone else.

I think it suits a Knight of Heart more, honestly!

Knights are protective by nature. Throw in Heart’s natural desire for others, its impulses, its devotion, obsession, love - and what you get is someone more than willing to throw themselves in front of anything to protect someone they love from danger. 

Which, admittedly, is the whole point of the song.

I think it’s also fitting considering that Tyler wrote the song for his wife, and he acknowledges that people will probably accuse him of selling out for her. That doesn’t stop him, however; the song’s testament to that. That is almost exactly how a Knight of Heart would view protecting or doting on someone they loved. 

It’s not a bother or annoying, don’t worry!

And so far I haven’t, no. If you’re alright with non-lyric songs, then I definitely think these two would work well:

Temporal Spire

I was initially going to say “I don’t have any, sorry”, but then I got Letter From a Thief - Chevelle stuck in my head and even though it’s got “Thief” in the title, it actually reads quite well for a Knight. 

It’s less about the act of stealing Mind and moreso about protecting it, and there’s a good section where the singer is exploiting choice - “Told to dissolve, or choose to fade / Or stay here” - where we’re given two distinct options, but the third is the one the Knight has found, and wants to go with. 

Also, “If you ever enter my Mind / Stay there / You’ll live” really reads to me as someone being protected by mind. Especially since the next line is “To fend them off / And fool them all”. It goes back and forth on who’s the Knight, but it’s definitely there.
