These writers could be writing about ’modern times’. Of course they are not the respectable poets we have been led to believe they are through our schooling, with little or no relevance to our times - and it’s time that this was known. I note that Jeremy Corbyn, the UK’s Labour Party Leader, quoted from Shelley at this year’s Glastonbury.
I posted this as a tweet (poetweet). Short, therefore, and simple (140 characters .... and you’re not far short of the number of years since they lived and wrote ...)
Shelley, Byron, Clare,
Merely a short breath away:
Voices of 'Then'
(If voices of men!)
With words
For the 'Now'
Of Today.
