A Gathering
Day 15, Wednesday 9/17/14 (Part 2):
Tonight was an interesting night for sure. School just started about a week or so ago and our class had its first get together in the form of a class dinner. It was actually pretty awesome. Our class (class 3.4) is way different from the other classes in the international school because we are all about the same age (early twenties/late teens). Most of the other classes have less “young” people and a lot of older students (40, 50, 60ish). There are quite a few of Korean housewives who have moved to Suzhou with their husbands and are trying to learn Chinese.  Anyway we all got together and went to the corner of Feng Men Lu to eat street food.
Tonight was probably the first time that I really thought to myself “wow, I’m in China studying Chinese…in China.” It was the epitome of study abroad. There were about 15 or so of us huddled around several tables sitting on plastic stools, on the street corner sharing fried noodles, fried rice, and beer.  America, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Korean, Canada, Mexico, Bosnia, and others were all represented tonight at our table. Pretty cool, pretty cool.Â
