The drive the country had been an interesting one. It was full of talks of what they wanted to do when they graduated college, laughter and random conversations along with music that would either be turned up to sing a long with or turned down when their conversations picked up. If one thing stayed true between them, there was never a dull moment or a quiet one unless they both agreed for it. Maybe that was why as the blanket was laid down on the grassy patch below their feet, when his back rested against it and she rested against his chest, the silence that fell over them was peaceful and welcome. His strong arms were around her, securing her to him as if she were leaning on a rock for support yet her touches against his chest were as light as a feather that danced in the wind. Her scent was intoxicating and filled him to the brim as the corners of his lips curled upward into a soft and content smile. The sound of her breathing was only nulled by the sound the crickets around them. The night was calm with only a light breeze but the sky was abright with starlight.
“Tell me about the stars.”
Her voice was as soft as the breeze that caressed their skin and if he hadn’t been paying attention, he would have never heard her and he smiled. Bellamy had always loved the stars. Ever since he was a child and he stole a book from the library on Astronomy and star patterns. He could look up and practically point out every constellation without trouble.
“What they are or how they’re made?”
Was he meaning to be technical? No, he had just come accustomed to a certain way of answering things. Not knowing what someone wanted from him when he couldn’t see their face or read their body language and Clarke was like one of the mystery books he loved to read growing up and sharing with Octavia at night. She merely smirked, he was only able to tell by the feeling of her cheek lifting against him as she playfully punched his chest, causing his smile to grow larger.
“Each star is like a lantern of light floating through thenight sky. They’re each special with their own namesand galaxies inside of them. Yet, they let their light shinebright to use accompanied by the moon.”
He knew that wasn’t the truth about stars, at least half of it wasn’t, yet, he wanted it to sound that way. A play of innocence that he got from raising Octavia all those years. The part of him that only Clarke ever saw of him.
