A screencap of cjdns running in Linux Mint 17.3. Another excellent factor of robustness is that a few battery powered wireless mesh nodes can keep an area connected even if the local AC grid and internet fail. Then the mesh functions as a local net until a peer is found that can serve as a gateway to the internet. In essence, you can still send messages, files, stream video, etc., to others in the local mesh.
Installing Cjdns Mesh Networking (Linux & Windows)
A new how-to is posted, showing how to install cjdns mesh networking in Windows and Linux. It uses the Hyperboria network for an example, but it works for any mesh based on cjdns: https://www.ab9il.net/crypto/cjdns1.html It took 10 minutes from start to finish! Easy. This technology is all about decentralising the internet - putting it in the hands of the users, increasing security, and making it impossible to hack or tamper with the traffic.
Throughout the course of the last decade, the landscape of the Internet has shifted dramatically as political and corporate control have changed the structure of the network. The threat of the FCC overturning net neutrality, an increasingly powerful oligopoly of ISPs, and corporate and political surveillance online are endangering the state of the Internet as we know it. Groups of engineers and activists have begun to propose ways to resolve these issues, and the advent of inexpensive wireless networking has ignited a movement to create wireless mesh networks called meshnets.
My new article on wireless meshnets and Hyperboria is up over at Make Magazine today.
My talk with Peter Valdez and Kurt Snieckus on wireless meshnets from the HOPE X conference is up on YouTube. Topics include net neutrality, the ISP oligopoly, and corporate/political surveillance on the Internet as we know it, as well as how the advent of wireless meshnets can help solve these problems online. There's also a DIY section on how to connect to Hyperboria and an overview of meshnet technology.

HOPE talk!
Just found out that my HOPE talk on Hyperboria, CJDNS, and local wireless meshnets is officially happening at HOPE at 1 PM on Friday, July 18th! The talk is called "Wireless Meshnets: Building The Next Version Of The Web," and it will also feature a panel discussion with Peter Valdez and Kurt Snieckus from NYCMeshnet. Conference schedule and more is up here.
