Bow River and Downtown Calgary by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: One day I do plan on spending more time exploring this city, but for this trip, my plans were to the west in the mountains. Anywho, for this image, I liked the airplane wing on the right to help frame a portion of the city downtown below.

Capturing that Golden Glow of an Afternoon Sun by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A view looking out my airplane window to the west before landing at Long Beach Airport. When I first looked at the image, I wasn't really drawn to it because of the atmospheric haze and reflections of the sun off the waters. I was able to use the adjustment brush as a burn tool and to add some clarity for the final image. Another thing I experimented with this image was something I recently read in working with Lightroom. A few authors had recommended using the Tone Curve panel rather than the Basic panel for working with highlights shadows, suggesting it offered more control over those areas being affected.

As the clouds started breaking apart, I was able to see much of the cities and landscape around southern California. Then I saw this lake seemingly in the middle of this urban metropolis. And the mountains all around. I'm sure many come to enjoy time in the water for that afternoon away.
