It shows Sky's nature, it tells us what is gping on in that fucked up brain of hers. And the fact that Maria's plot is present at first only to disappear and not get resolved at the end just adds to this.
The whole episode is just Sky pushing herself to her limit, suffering because of it and them pushing herself even further.
And yes, I will blatantly ignore the fact that her mood got fucked up right when Adam left.
