Citizen Kane is considered one of the most influential films of our time. Made by Orson Welles in 1941, the editor Robert Wise achieve great storytelling techniques, by experimenting with long dissolves and the use of optical printers. Most of the transitions were planned during production making the process seamless for the editor and assistant editor.
Welles vision was reflected in the editorial work as well in the beautiful cinematography. The scene shown here is a great example of experimental techniques in editing, from the use of opacity and flashes to dissolve with visual textures.
