CIRCUIT 7 - “RUSSIAN ROULETTE”
Does a great song necessarily have great lyrics? There are some tracks where I’ve been really put off by lyrics I can’t stand--mostly novelty songs, or the kind of dirty lyrics whose titillation reads as tawdry. Great lyrics boost a song for me, sure, but I like a lot of songs whose texts could be better described as “mediocre.” I’m hungry enough for a great synth line that I don’t always worry about the specifics. On that note, here’s a little minimal synth track that delivers where it counts, but has some fairly silly lyrics. At least they’re dispensing good advice: you really probably shouldn’t play Russian roulette. This track didn’t get released in the 80s, and is one of the many delightful things that’s been dredged up and put out there for us fans by the fabulous label Minimal Wave. Perhaps the lyrics were just a placeholder?
