Uni, also known as “a fleeting taste of freedom before you’re shackled to a cubicle for the dwindling remainder of your uneventful adulthood”. In other words, a chance to meet new people and possibly even fall in looooove (says her starry-eyed roommate, who has probably watched far too many dramas to differentiate between fiction and reality).
"Earth to Hyebin...” A series of wriggling fingers prompts her to begrudgingly peel her gaze away from her laptop. Said roommate arranges herself at the foot of her bed, a decisive pout on her lips. Oh god. This can’t mean anything good.
“Are you seriously doing work? We’re not at school right now, you should have a little fun.” Jieun’s definition of ‘fun’ post-breakup has been flirting with as many boys as possible, which Hyebin fully supports but isn’t really interested in. Tuition sucks, and if she can graduate early and save herself from an extra year’s worth of debt, she’ll take it any day over some scrawny college boy.
“I was going to hang out with some of the girls later by the lake-”
“Well, some of the guys-” Hyebin stares knowingly and Jieun hastily corrects herself. “-and girls wanted to hang out downstairs. Get to know each other and stuff. I could really use some moral support...Please?”
“I don’t know...”
“Oh, come on! I’ll buy you that mixer you’ve been eyeing for weeks.”
Well that changes things.
So thirty minutes later, she’s sitting cross-legged on the floor, sandwiched between an already-tipsy Jieun and a relatively sober Business major- Taehyun? Taewoon? The table’s littered with empty beer and soju bottles and bowls stained red from cheese 불닭. Some of the guys have taken to whipping up extra helpings of ramen, equipped hilariously with aprons from god-knows-where. And several shots in, she’s feeling pretty great. Just as her and Business Major start really getting into their conversation Jieun yanks her sleeve and leans in close, eyes unusually bright. It’s the look.
“Oh. My. God. Hye, I think I’ve found the one.”
She’s fallen in looooove.
