      the building wasn’t anything spectacular, but it wasn’t the decrepit wreck the rental price would have lead her to believe. she was the only one in the building, & while her unit had probably once been one of three, she now had the entire top floor & the rooftop deck to herself. it wasn’t a bad set up, & she was still waiting for the other shoe to drop. the rent was ridiculously low, but Luke hadn’t been able to find anything in police records like some sort of murder spree, or a history of missing persons in the area. in fact, crime was lower in this part of the city than most. it was almost like its own little isolated bubble in the middle of the city that extended quite a few blocks, & then dissipated right as she crossed the major street over to her school, or dipped south to head to one of the galleries she worked out of. 

      right now though, none of that is really her concern. RIGHT NOW she just needs to get her laundry. that’s the only thing she doesn’t love - she’s on the top floor, & it’s all the way down in the basement. ... if she had to guess, a very childish part of her wants to say the basement by itself is the reason the rent is so low. it’s dark, & maybe even a little terrifying. Jonathan had made the joke that if demons could come through, she had her very own portal to the other side there in the foundations & she hadn’t really disagreed with him. still, she hefts the laundry basket on her hip & makes her way down, dumping everything in the machine with the homemade detergent that reminds her of her mom. she’s just about to hit the button when she looks up & sees-

IT WASN’T HIS FIRST ATTEMPTED ARREST. Not the first time, if he was caught, that he would feel the chill of First Order binders around his wrists either...not by a long shot. It seemed to be a nasty habit he’d developed over recent years. Though the FAMILIARITY of the act made the pilot move no less quickly to get away from his rapidly encroaching would-be captors. In fact, there was something about the humming c r a c k l e of a flickering lightsaber at your back that put a special brand of adrenaline in your step. A distinct sort of alertness to your surroundings that made everything incredibly loud and incredibly muted at the same time. Poe taking cover at speed passed two downed troopers. Their armor still lightly smoking and singed at the necks from his well timed blaster shots. Dameron pressing his back against low cover. Breathing harsh, constricting in his chest. Trying to catch his breath. Weapon heated in his hands.
