Some time passed since Giotto found Nix and took her in when she had no where else to go. Thanks to his kindness and patience, the woman had grown to love the new world she was in. So that day was supposed to be like any other. It was supposed to be another casual outing around the town, looking around with the man she had grown to care deeply for. Though it seemed fate had other plans in store for her that day. The peaceful air Nix had grown accustomed to was shattered by gunfire and a burning pain through her body.
Guns did not exist where Nix hailed from and as such, had never been shot before. She found feel a burning pain where she was struck, her shoulders, her left arm, and her left side. This was worse than being struck by arrows, at least those didn’t burn and could be removed easier. As she laid on the ground, the holes in her skin were clearly seen but what hit her was unseen. Did it go through her or remain inside? It was difficult to tell. All she knew was that her entire body hurt.. Giotto hurried to her side and the distress was clear on his face and in his voice. Something one would expect when someone was bleeding right before their eyes. Though did he just say it was his fault?
Tears gathered in Nix’s eyes from the sheer amount of pain she was in, powerless to hold them back. She may have felt weak but she needed to say something to Giotto. “I.. It’s not your fault, Giotto.. I sh-should have.. moved faster.” What was wrong with her? Normally her senses were sharper then that. Had she grown too relaxed and allowed her guard to drop that much? Due to that, Giotto was suffering for it as he seemed to believe this was all his fault. Seeing the tears running down his face made her heart ache with guilt. He was shedding those tears because of her state and the guilt he too was feeling. “Please don’t.. blame yourself.” Her voice grew softer, weaker, as she felt her strength bleeding away. His face was becoming blurred in her eyes, as was everything around them..
