7 WAYS TO STAY MOTIVATED TO YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTION
We all know how crazy 2016 was with all the music legends dying, a political war in the US, planes going missing, a gorilla got shot, Brits are out of the Euro the list goes on.
But hey, we’re all here and alive in 2017! Everyone is having a rather positive outlook on this year and I am so excited to see what everyone is going to accomplish. I’m sure you have some big dreams for this year and now it’s time to turn those dreams into a reality. You’ve written them down list them out. Now, what? It’s going to get tiring after a while and you find yourself stuck in a rock feeling unmotivated. It happens to me too. When things get tough you feel unmotivated and uninspired. So what do you do?
1. MAKE A LIST & POST IT ON YOUR WALL: Make sure you have a way to see this EVERYDAY. Next to your bed so when you wake up you see this. Let this be your motivation. List all the things you want to accomplish by the end of 2017. When you list them be specific. Instead of putting something vague like “Get in Shape” write down what you want to accomplish. Ex: “Lose 20 pounds”
2. VISION BOARD: IMAGES. Pictures. SAVE THEM ALL. From the car you want to have, the shoes you want to wear; print them out, cut them out, get some glue and a poster board. Set this up where you can see this EVERYDAY next to your list. Something you see every day is going to get into your subconscious and rewire your brain to think a certain way. Ooooh. I just spit some bars. When you see what you want in front of you the motivation is accomplishments. YAAAAS. Where's my Lambo at?
“As you think, so shall you become.” – Bruce Lee
3. BABY STEPS: Make sure you set checkpoints to your goals! If your goal for 2017 is to start a business, break it down into steps; an action plan to take. The first checkpoint would be to file your business DBA and legalities so no one can take your business or ideas from you. Second, you would write a business plan; and so on… You cannot fly before building the wings.
4. SCHEDULE YOUR TIME AND SET DEADLINES: One of my goals for 2016 is to start a blog and get 10k Tumblr followers by the end of 2017. And here I am writing to you. At first, I panicked writing this blog. I honestly had no idea how to start. I’m sure every creative has experienced this. But once you start its just flows. Like pen ink to paper, it begins as a blank canvas. So I’ve scheduled a block of time to sit down and just write. By the end of this month, I want to get 1000 followers! Scheduled time to learn new things and courses. Schedule time for action. Time can be your best friend or your worst enemy. I’m not going to lie; I am a bit of a procrastinator myself. But I am working on it…I used to dread deadlines. There’s a great book I recommend “Stop F**king Around: Conquer Your Procrastination, Take Back Your Time and Start Getting Things Done, Today” by Eliza Palmer
5. SHARE YOUR GOALS WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS: They are your best ally for support and hold you accountable. When you’re feeling down in the dumps they are the ones that keep you going and reminding you “YOU GOT THIS!” Maybe partner with a workout buddy that’s trying to get in shape like you. 2 is always better than one and another one may have the resources and support to help you out.
6. JOURNAL YOUR DAY: Keep track of where you’re at. Sometimes with so much going on you forget where you’re at in life. Keep a small handheld notebook to briefly reflect on your day and meditate. I recommend doing this before getting ready for bed at the end of the day. Put some calming music and just reflect on what you got done today. Make every day worth the while. Life is the best gift in the world.
7. CELEBRATE EVERY ACCOMPLISHMENTS: If you reached your goal of getting promoted in your company; CELEBRATE. If you reached your goal of losing 5 pounds; treat yourself and go get your nails done! You’ve worked hard and there’s more to go. Give yourself a pat on the back for doing an amazing job and staying disciplined!
