We all need this. π Thanks, Ashlee! #Repost @pointsandposescharleston with @get_repost γ»γ»γ» Nadi Shodhana or Alternate Nostril Breathing is a pranayama (breathing exercise) that we practice in yoga to help purify the energy channels and prepare the mind for meditation. It balances the two hemispheres of the brain as well as the yin and yang energies of the body. It tames the βmonkey mind,β and calms the nervous system. This practice can also be very helpful for anxiety, insomnia, and reducing stress. To practice... π§ββοΈ Find a comfortable seat and extend tall through the spine. π§ββοΈ You will use your right thumb and 4th finger to block off the nostrils. π§ββοΈ First, take a long and gentle breath in and out through both nostrils. π§ββοΈ Then block off the right nostril with your thumb and inhale through the left for 4 counts. π§ββοΈ Hold the breath for 2-16 counts while blocking off both nostrils. (Start with 2 and build to 16 over time). π§ββοΈ Then exhale out the right nostril for 8 counts. π§ββοΈ Inhale back through the right for 4 counts, hold for 2-16 counts, exhale out the left for 8 counts. π§ββοΈ That πcompletes one round. Try doing 6-9 rounds everyday for a week and see if you notice a shift. β¨ πΉ: @shawnreeder π #nadishodhana #pranayama #yoga #chsyoga #pointsandposescharleston #maharetreats #charlestonmassage #charlestonacupuncture #meditationpractice #meditationtips #holisticretreat #mindfullife #mindfullnesspractice (at Charleston, South Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/BusLha4B-QA/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=6d3vze0k7qeb
